Am I right ti think my bike is imported? please help.

Hi,

I have noticed my V5 special notes say the following:

WAS REGISTERED AND/OR USED. DECLARED MANUFACTURED 1992

But it also says:

Date of first registration 07 03 1994

Date of first registration in the UK 07 03 1994

so, is that an import bike? I know if it is a japan import it is KPH but mine is MPH and Zxr400 did sell officially in the UK.

Can anyone help to clear it a bit for me please?

most 400’s were grey imports due to the uk 400’s being almost the same price new as a new 600. Its highly likely that its a grey import.

and does it matter? it has a V5 and is registered in the UK, so who cares?

To be honest the only think i am concerned is the insurance. if it is import the cost will be higher so I just want to making sure of it when they ask " is the bike imported?"

cheers guys

Kawasaki UK started selling the ZXR400 L1 in the UK in '91at a retail price of £4799, substantially cheaper than it’s 400cc rivals. '91 - L1, '92 -L2, '93 -L3. '94 - L4 and L4a, '95 - L5 (No L6 models were directly imported) they carried on selling directly in the UK until '99 with the final L9. Despite this there was still a lot of grey imports. No I’m not a ZXR400 geek, all this and more is in this months Practical Sportsbike  where they test it against a CBR 400RR
