Am I alone in being surprised that it needed alcohol for Jetstream to come up with this post?

I just thought this was quite normal.

It’s the NATO phonetic alphabet http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/NATO_phonetic_alphabet

It is used by ICAO and other international organisations. WILCO is not a term used in the alphabet. It is either William (in the military alphabets before NATO) or Whiskey (in the NATO alphabet). WILCO stands for “Will Comply”, another military term to indicate that the message has been received and understood.

S.

That Alpha should be Oscar…

Of course, if you’re old it’s Able, Baker, Charlie…

Apparently, air traffic controllers in Middle Eastern Islamic states are refusing to say “Whisky” and replacing it with other “W” words. Which is about as daft as not using the alcohol-based hand scrub in hospitals.

from another thread…and this is progress…

There’s a list of various old phonetic alphabets at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/NATO_phonetic_alphabet

along with an explanation on how the NATO version became so dominant

That’ll be Violin or Vehicle then;)

LMAO

We should start our own LB phonetic alphabet . . . er . . .
