Almax Chain

Need a 2M almax chain and saw this on eBay…

Am I correct in thinking that the almax chain should be completely covered by the security mesh??

If by security mesh you mean the material sock that goes over it … no it should not cover the whole chain as it is a pull through chain and would not work properly or easily if fully covered .

Almax again so soon

I’ll refrain from posting my second favourite picture, suffice it to say other security chains are available.

Are you sure you really need a 2M of 19mm chain?

If so and your set on an Almax get it directly from The Simpsons for the same price, you’ll need to ring Alex or Mrs Simpson herself to haggle the price. Mention London Bikers but not Art and you should be fine for a discount

BTW I thought the Almax chains had a black finish :ermm:

Nothing to see here Simon - move along

Apart from my favourite picture for posting on LB

Yep I definitely need the 2m as I can’t install a ground anchor so have filled an oil drum with cement with a plastic lined tunnel through it that sits in corner of garage and to reach through the barrel and to the back wheel is approx 180cm.

The fabric is for protecting the finish on your bike and should extend to within a link or two of the end to prevent scuffing the paint as you pass it through wheels etc. You could buy a new cover or pull a mountain bike inner tube over it but as Art points out, it’s only £29 more on the Almax website and I’m sure there used to be a LB discount so by the time you’ve bought a new cover you may as well buy new.

The Almax website does show the series IV with a black finish.

Buy a 3 meter … let me cut off one meter to go and play with  … I soooo want to destroy an almax and see how fast i can beat it

Thats a pull through in the ad … fully covering those makes em darned awkward to get on and off cos yhou gotta haul the chain and covering through the link and it’s tight enough without the covering … and once it’s been done a couple of times it bunches up and you end up cutting it off anyways or it’s impossible to pull it up properly .

That’s what I thought, looks a bit suspicious to me, will speak to Simpsons

The ad also says series iv 16mm but the series iv is 19mm.

That doesn’t look like an Almax - it’s some other chain with a 1m Almax strung over the middle.

Art - “your” and “you’re” are very different words

I just bought a 2m 19mm Almax Immobiliser series IV with an SS65 lock Straight from Almax, and the chain was black and only a half of the last link on both ends was not covered in the protective, maroon, sleeve. Also, all the branding is embroidered on the protective sleeve and that picture makes it look like it’s just printed on it. Almost certain the Ebay one is a fake.

Hope this helps.

We doe confess Errata’s. However, you need to take into account that we, the scribes of My Backyard, along with the greengroucer’s’, shop keeperers and restaurantierers nationwide have been given dispensation to use, dispense with or swap apostrophes and vowels as we like.

This dispensation was bestowed upon us by the Late Baroness Margaret Thatcher (nee Roberts, Greengroucer’s’ Daughter done good bad whatever) in lieu of stolen milk dating back to 1971 and can’t be rescinded.

To avoid any future confusion we’d also like you to consider

yewr and yew’re

Wot you need is an Almax, that’ll fix your spelling :stuck_out_tongue:

if almaxs are black then that’s a new thing, I have 2 almax’s and none of em are black, 1 was bought direct from almax another from a trusted mate.

1 is series III and the other is series IV

Same here, both are gold & both were bought direct from Almax.

Yup I have an IV, it’s gold as in the pic and definitely genuine as I ordered it direct. Bought around 2007.

What isn’t right is the cover being a bit short - mine only lets the end loops poke out. I can understand it being cut away by a previous if the chain was run past the exhaust etc and they didnt want it to melt.

My thought is that it’s genuine as the links look the same, and the padlock and keys look right too.

I have the Almax III series 2M long, it weights like a dead body and without the nylon sleeve it will probably cause damage to your bike while handling the chain around the bike.

just cos the sleeve is short don’t mean its moody, sleeve may have just got worn so bloke cut it down.

It’s not just that it’s shorter, all the branding is printed on it, whilst on the original it’s embroidered (at least on the two chains that I bought from Almax directly)

Just bought one recently, the gent from Almax offered to shorten the sleeve. It’s so you can lock your chain off tighter.
