Alarm doesn't go off

A while ago, I had to pick up a parcel from CityLink in Beckenham (I know, bad start). I’d parked up the bike, and when I got back and tried to undo the alarm, it just wouldn’t work. I moved the bike a few meters as it was near a wall, still no luck. Tried all sorts, and was about to ring the recovery people when a lad walks passed and says: “problems with your alarm? Just push it down the road, it happens all the time”. So I push my bike down the road, and on it goes. I didn’t think much of it and it was a rainy day, so I thought maybe that had something to do with it.

Yesterday, I was there again, and same thing happened. It must be something about that area. Does it happen to anybody else? I’m curious to know what exaclty stops it of working.

Oh, and I can confirm. When you push a bike down the street with it’s alarm going mad, nobody even turns their head or asks what you are doing! :frowning:

yeah i have heard about this… something to do with radio/mobilephone frequencies.

I have also had my alarm act up a couple of times, but a nudge - to set it off seems to “wake” it.

The huge TV mast at Crystal Palace has this effect. If you fill up at the petrol station opposite, you have to walk it down the hill to disarm the alarm.

Yep Il agree I pushed my R1 from the post office in canning town to my home in upton park with the alarm triggering every minute and no-one took a blind bit of notice!!!

This is not good if the teefs are out robbing bikes and ting! Ya get me!!!

This happens all the time in the car park at Surrey Quays Shopping Centre. If you park in certain area’s, the remote for the car will not work. Yet only feet away, you get a clear signal! It’s something to do with black-spot’s, atmospheric conditions and power grids. It works on the same sort of principles as HF radio signal bounce, and can probably be tied into ancient power lines and aliens if you looked into it far enough… :w00t: :stuck_out_tongue: It’s a government conspiracy to make people walk more, in a bid to get the nation a bit healthier! :stuck_out_tongue:

Whooo someone from my area!

:w00t:

Hey, that used to be my local supermarket! Never had the problem there though. Probably because my old scoot nor the old mini has an alarm (well, the mini has, in theory, but it’s a Rover job …).

get this in Forest Hill outside my missus place… there is a huge TV Mast nearby that interferes with the alarm. my solution is to hold the fob as near to the receiver unit on the side of the bike and holding button in. only thing that works… otherwise i have to the do the manual override sequence by using key in ignition…

try holding your fob as near to the alarm box as possible- might save you walking the bike with alarm going off…

I did try that the first time, but still no luck. I guess I should write down somewhere how the manual override procedure works.

Had this problem at Crystal Palace with the TV mast, if you are in the direct line of the mast. If you place something between the mast and bike (like going behind a van or something which is bigger) it seems to be okay. We called the RAC to sort it when it happened there and he did this and it worked. Undoing the seat and turning the alarm off there also sorts it out.

Also, try placing the key-fob against your head, then pressing it. Not winding you up, this does increase the signal from the fob! It actually earth’s the fob, therefor it is using ground-wave as well as air-wave signal, hence larger coverage!..

Guess who used to be a communication’s specialist in the Army???.. :stuck_out_tongue:
