Well after a long drawn out process my Sv650S has been written off… I have agreed a value of 2350 on the bike… I can buy the bike back for 470 which has an aftermarket exhaust good condition, 3 month old datatool alarm, new lower fiarings which now have scratches on them. and oviously the rest of the bike such as the wheels etc etc rear hugger, fender extender… What i wanna know is whether people think i should buy it back off them and sell it in parts… anybody done this before.
Not having seen the bike i wouldnt be able to say for sure. Try pricing the bits you tink you could sell/use again. If the total cost you can get from fleebay is more then it may be worth buying it back.
Personally i’d take the hit and get a new one as i couldnt be ar5ed to break it. It’s a personal choice and generally if i did buy back it would be with the intent to repair.
Yeh i could get someone whos quality on bikes to repair it and then go halfs on it because im getting a cheque for a new bike anyways so ill buy a new bike anyway! but just not sure as the price of the bike is only 470.
The clutch lever has snapped as far as i can tell, there is scratches to the lower fairing, and the gear box lever has snapped. although it is only the lever not the actual connector to the lever possibly minor scratches here and there but before some silly person reversed into it when it was parked it was mint lol gutted
If you’ve got the time to strip the bike down, assess the damage, and then either repair it or flog all the bits on e-bay, then do it, as the price you’ve been offered the bike at seems very reasonable. If you are likely to have this bike sat in your garage/shed/garden for months or years gathering dust and rust, I wouldn’t bother, and I’d put the money towards a new bike
get it assessed for repair back to new if you do alot of the work yourself or with a friend. Then work out how much one would cost to get again in the same standard. If you make money then go for it.
From what you’ve said nothing serious is broken. I assume the frame isnt bent.
Well its classed as Written off but im not sure what category u mean to be honsest they have ssaid i can buy it back… id prob be happy to negotiatie a figure relatively near to what the insurance company have offered not looking to make anything major on it… if you get it up and running its a great bike and the exhaust sounds beautiful lol!!!
Yeh alot of it is cosmetic and i dont think anything is bent i wheeled it on to the van etc etc amd the frame and allignment seemed fine… the engine turns on but does not fire up oviosuly because of the clutch! but i think for that price i might see if i can get somebody to do it up for us!! A bloke across the road does all that imight say to him look if you fancy the time… ill give ya half of what we sell it for as long as i make my 470 back lol!!
buy it back, if you cant put it on road you might make a track bike outta it, take some pics n post them on here let peeps see what wrong with it then sell it spares or repair
Sounds like an economic write off. These are usualy due to the silly price of new components, noteably plastics. Sounds like an easy sort out but alot of work if your looking to have a prize possession again.
Knew someone in that position a few years ago who just fixed it up safe, sound and looking o.k. using s/hand bits + filler and aerosols from Halfords. (A Goldwing.)
He thought he enjoyed the bike more after the fix as he no longer had worries about the cosmetics being spot on. (They looked pretty good to me.)
He didn’t have finance to pay off, do you? Could be all the difference.
Oh, and he had no problem selling a couple of years later, despite the DVLA notice, as he kept photographs, bills, everything to prove it was just a money thing and didn’t ask top dollar despite being a one owner from new machine.
There ya go thats my problem i have it on finance i owe 2300 and the bike money i will be getting back is 2350 but to by the bike back would be 470 so i would need to either pay it off while keeping the bike whilst i fix it up but then not ride for a while or just settle the figure and start again.
Why not check for yourself the going rate of s/h spares for your bike on ebay, then it should be obvious as to whether or not it’s worth breaking.
It’s much easier to break than repair and resell, and of course being a recorded insurance write off it will be worth a lot less (assumming it can be legally put back on the road).
My mate bought his bike back for £350.00, we expected about £1200 in spares, but somehow got £1800. It’s amazing how many valuable bits there are when you start dismantalling. The engine alone is usually worth quite a bit.
When you say the bike is on finance do you mean it is subject to a hire purchase agreement or you have got a bank loan?If it’s on an encumbered hire purchase you are legally obliged to notify the finance company of the bike being written off and they will want to recover the debt from you.
