Advice needed on bleeding brakes

I’ve bled brakes before and understand it all but I cannot get these tokico 6 pots to bleed properly it’s way too spongy.

I’ve checked to see if the calipers are straight to the discs which they are and there’s no leaks.

Any tips?

they’re known to be bastids arn’t they?

have you got a pressure bleeding tool? i usually find cracking the thread at the m/c gets some air out, then again at each caliper…

Aye, bleed at the master cylinder first - takes a fair old time.
Also, are all the seals in good nick ? I always remove the dust seals from the 6 pots because they are horrendous.
If you put new seals in, are the fluid seals the right way round ? there is a slight taper to them…

No fancy tools just a 10 and 12mm spanners to get the job done.

I bleed it up the top just fluid and went down to the nipple managed to get abit more air out of there so leaving it for afew hours before bleeding the top again.

I havnt changed the seals as when had the pads out gave it a good clean and all looked good.

It I can’t get it right I’ll get a set of seals. If the seals are taperd which way should the taper go?

vaccum brake bleeder, i think only about 20 off ebay, helps a lot.

just suck it through. cable tie the lever to the bar put rubber tube on bleed nipple open bleed nipple and suck, dont get a mouthfull though, stick yer tongue then then ya feel when it gets there, lol.

or i use a syringe.

Yuck I done that with my bicycle brake before andmy tounge went numb

The seals are ok, I checked them when I rebuilt the calipers.

Use a long length of transparent tube if you are going to do the “sucking through” trick, then you can see where the fluid is before you get a mouthful.

When you’ve got it about right, pump the lever and get really good line pressure and cable tie the lever back to the bar and leave it overnight.

That leaves the master cylinder valve open and the air should (note: should) rise in the lines and exit into the master cylinder and release through the cylinder fluid.

get some 4 pots there way better!

in all honesty stick at it mate,it will come, crack nipple squeeze lever close nipple… crack nipple squeeze lever close nipple … crack nipple squeeze lever close nipple… crack nipple squeeze lever close nipple… crack nipple squeeze lever close nipple…

the fluid will be working its way down bit by bit, it will come good but it sometimes takes a fair time, those 6 pots are big and it takes some time to fill them with fluid before you will see any at the nipple.

patients and perseverance! good luck

This indeed… I’ve spent the last three years bleeding the poxy things on both our bikes, and have yet to find an easy way to do it.Next weekend I’m making me a pressure bleeder using a windscreen washer pump…
And Nissin 4 pots are much better calipers that need very little maintenance
Never been a fan of Tokicos

Cheers guys I’ll be getting more dot4 today so I can redo it on monday

take calipers off and turn them upside down and gently tap as some calipers can trap a bubble of air (tockico 4 pots renowned for it on the zzr’s) then refit and bleed as normal …

Good advice TimR

Can’t remember which bike it was, but the only way to bleed the brakes was to have the callipers upside down and laying on their sides (Important: With a piece of wood the same ish thickness as the brake discs.) and leave them for an hour after initial bleeding.

Then bleed again to get the last of the air out. What a pain in the nethers that was, but better than spongy braks.
