Advice buying a secondhand Suzuki GSX-R 600 K-4

Hi everyone,

I’m looking at purchasing my next bike and was after some advice. The bike is being sold by trade and not a dealer and was wondering what to look out for. Also was wondering if there were any specific problems/issues with the GSX-R 600 K-4 model that I should be aware of.

The bike has a Rizla paintjob and the seller has documentation that it was done from the factory by Crescent Suzuki. I was wondering if buying a race replica had any drawbacks/issues? I know Rizla no longer sponsor Suzuki, would that make it less desirable on resale?

Look forward to your help/comments/advice and thank you inadvance for them.

Thanks,

Raq

a good sound bike, depends what he’s asking for it tho…

Asking price is £3.3k.

It is a 04 plate.

Bike had 2 owners & 11.5k on the clock.

Has a Data tool alarm/immobiliser and Alpha dot tag

It has full service history apparently with 3 stamps at 500,3000,8500miles service.

If it feels right do it. If its too good to be true walk away.

That’s a bit confusing.

" If something feels right…but not too right " kind of thing?

I always thought that the walking away part should come when you, showing financial frustration due to the credit crunch etc, make like you’re walking away from the deal with the seller in an effort to get them to lower the price (or throw in extras).
After all, if you can afford to wait for another bike to come along (after walking away), you have the upper hand.

Sorry, I can’t give any Gixxer-specific advice, but make sure you know the bad points of the bike no matter how small, that way you might avoid unpleasant surprises in the future.

There are a good few knowledgeable riders of the same or similar bikes on LB. Perhaps you could find one good enough to come with you and have a look at, and possibly test ride, the bike to spot any inconsistencies.
Good luck!

take someone with you who knows about bikes.

look at the head race bearings and the suspension linkage bearings

they suffer from judder from the fornt brakes.

the circuit board that controls the secondary butterflys can crack

awsome bike though

BTW race reps cost more to insure

Thanks very much for the response, it’s been helpful. Any gixxer lovers out there who’s free on a Saturday around Colchester who would be happy to help me check the bike? I’ll buy you lunch or drinks if you prefer.

Bike got sold this afternoon, gutted!

Unfortunate that one! looked like a good buy… But plenty of bargins to be had at this time of year, given that it is winter and also with the current financial climate…Keep looking and post up if you have any more questions.
