I dont tar them with the same brush cos I’ve got a couple of mates with them but its always the scooters that **** me off on the way to work, especially last week when 2 of them took to the pavement to get round the traffic. I can get through the traffic just as quick on my gsxr than a scooter but they always seem to be making a right meal out of it by weaving side to side - just go through the bloody gap!

I was riding my mates scooter on Sat and it was quite refresing to be honest! 
That’s why I like to ride out of London as often as possible

I’m fortunate that the mirrors on my scooter work fine and I do find them useful for checking what is behind me well in advance. If you’ve got no idea whats coming up fast behind you it could be a hell of a shock when you do turn round to ‘have a proper look’. I’ve watched numerous scooter and bike riders in London ride without mirrors- one scooter sticks in my mind- he had no mirrors and no inclination to check behind and was blithely swerving in and out of gaps causing havoc behind him. One of the things my DAS instructor always emphasised was that by checking your mirrors before you brake, as well as letting you see what is going on behind, you give the rider/ driver behind you a clue that you are about to do something as they will usually see your head movements before they see your brake light. If you haven’t got mirrors you can’t really do this- ok you could but you’d look pretty silly.
Don’t worry Benelli Boy, I’ll be on a scooter soon enough (Dylan 125 most prob). The ‘hair dryer’ type of scooter I was referring to is the kind that is modified in ways unbeknownst to me (opened up? unrestricted? no mufflers?) making it the loudest, most annoying noise on the whole road - high pitched buzzing/ whining :crazy: (although I must admit I haven’t heard too many hair dryers that sound exactly like that recently).
Of course there are idiots in all walks of life, but this topic concerns (or has come to concern) those particularly reckless ones on, usually, low powered scooters, does it not?

??? WTF, why do people allow others to ride/drive whilst they are intoxicated? I would have kicked the little bast**d of his bike, had the keys out of the ignition and buggered off. Or at least got his reg and called the police. Hope he did not mow down a pregnant woman and her puppy dog whilst you were writing this wonderful thread.
thats why you might have things coming up fast behind you - you’re on a scooter! :Pjokes aside, doing your DAS and riding on the road are a different game. people in cars dont care/see you in teh first place, let alone what your head is doing, or interpret it properly. its more a case of ride as if if you’re invisible.i’ve seen plenty of scoots and bikers doing hte swerve thing with mirrors attached. if you’re a c0ck on 2 wheels, you’re a c0ck on two wheels. it is however a damn sight easier to get a scoot as all you need is your cbt, so there is more of a natural disposition to ride like a tool. my morning commute sees more daft no lookers from the scoot variety, but that takes us back to opinion and personal experience I guess
Age is also a factor. If you’re too young to take a DAS, you can ride a 125 geared bike on a CBT. Having said that, it is probaly true that there are more scoot riders than geared bike riders who have no intention of taking their test and take no further training after CBT.
I hate to see scooter riders riding recklessly. They give us all a bad name (and I don’t want to see an accident happen right next to me). It also gives geared bikers more reason to think they can treat me as if I’m a rubbish rider and to generally cut me up etc.

IMO it’s a bit too easy to get CBT. We use the same roads and even if it’s less dangerous for riders to start with 125er they still can cause the same danger for other road users as a 1 litre hoover.
I don’t see this as a ‘can of worms’ - Pav is quite right (And I’m a scooter rider).
Some riders do not know they are born - and some don’t use mirrors even if they are there.
All those who ride any PTW without (using) mirrors are selfish temporay citizens.
FWIW I followed (caught up with) a few BM folk exiting tonight - not a few didn’t use their mirrors, and most didn’t do life-savers when these would have been wise. Perhaps it was a case of ‘keep-up’ - I hope it wasn’t.
JohnnyB you are obviously some sort of Ninja-type rider with special powers and I defer to your wisdom;). I can only say that my DAS instructor possibly has even more experience on the road than you do and much as I respect your opinion I’ll stick with what he taught me and I won’t be removing my mirrors and pretending I’m invisible in the near future.
