I think he is refering to cheating monkeys, using the term monkey to mean monkey business, as in monkeys the animals are cheeky, will try anything on to get food or pinch things. I don’t think he’s being racist although perhaps unfortunate choice of word.
‘No monkeys from Nigeria with a sob story’ um that’s a racist remark… seller sounds like an a*hole but it’s a nice bike and looks like a good deal… you aren’t bidding on his ethics lol well done for reporting him though, he should be made to modify his listing.
Thats exactly what I thought too ![]()
wether or not he’s being racist i dunno but thats a scam he’s goin on about, had them try it with me when i was selling ma car, they email u sayin that they are from somewhere abroad, that a relative from the uk will contact you if you send them the details etc etc then they offer you the money rob u n take the vehicle, i had about 4 similar emails, when i got the first one i was a bit suspicious but gettin 3 or 4??? so i got in touch with the old bill and they said yea to def ignore it
A racist incident is occurs when anyone finds it racist.
So therefore it is racist.
I know the scams, I had similar when I tried to sell things on ebay, leading to a re-listing with comments along the lines of…
“no over payment by cheque”
“not to be posted abroad”
etc etc etc
I think you guys are too damn sensitive… :hehe:
it’s about being fair.
A case well put, but I dont ness see this as racist. You’d have to be a a twit or very insensitive to word the ad like that tho. I wonder what colour darrylj is?
what about the sexist comment:
“Owned by a girl from new (Feb 2004) and then bought by a 41 year old bloke that rides like a girl in March 2006”
:Whistling:
*Raising Awareness About Racist Incidents
What is a racist incident?
A racial incident is defined as any incident which is perceived to be racist by the victim or any other person. This definition was given by Sir William Macpherson in his Report on the Stephen Lawrence Inquiry (Recommendation 12) and has subsequently been adopted by the Scottish Parliament in its response to the Macpherson Inquiry.
It is important when dealing with racist incidents, to be clear about this definition - that it is the perception of the victim or person reporting an incident that must be taken into account indefinitional and recording terms. This does not mean an incident is invariably and finally recognised as racist because someone considers it such- only that the perception that it is so is acknowledged.
The definition is designed to take account of the fact that under-reporting of racist incidents is a serious problem in dealing with racism. There has been an historic tendency for practitioners and institutions to ignore or underplay the frequency of racist incidents and racism.*
I don’t think its racist… I wouldn’t cause any fuss if it was me who came across this. However it has always been seen as racist by someone therefore it is as per the above.
As the seller has already shown some sarcasm within the first few lines I am not surprised to see more.
And as far as the sexism thing, I agree it is, but he is assuming girls ride better than bloke. He would use the statistics provided by insurance companies and police and have evidence to back up his claims.
In that light is it actually a bad thing?
I think that is a very dangerous way to judge a situation, a bit like allowing the victim of crime to decide on the punishment - the loss of objectivity would lead to incredible punishments for minor crimes.
I dont see a problem with what he said-wouldnt have been my choice of words but its easy to take things out of context.
It is a dangerous way to judge, its not just the victim who decides, but anyone, a witness, a passer by, someone who hears about it on a website days later… its what anyone perceives it to be.
Police all over the country have to treat it in such a mannor as the MacPherson report said UK police don’t take it seriously and as the police have the racist label (thanks to a few not the majority) this is the result.
If you got a better solution write to your MP and challenge the MacPherson report.

And learn what futility feels like in the process ;)![]()
Another post about someone apparently being racist & sexist :doze:
Boring!!
I can see where you’re coming from, and this is usually a touchy subject. Where I work there is a diverse workforce, and people take things very differently. The problem with the Macphereson report is that if someone other than the victim decide its racist then it is? I find this a very dangerous way of wording things, and is likely to cause people who had no intention of being racist being branded this way. The way the ad was worded is stereotypical, as many of these scams originally started from nigeria. Since then it has moved to Holland, Hong Kong, Korea etc, but the scam remains very similar, and will only affect naiive internet users and greedy people.
It’s been removed now, so obviously eBay agreed with thoughts it was racist or offensive.
Well done for reporting it Darrylj, somethings obviously been done as the listing has been removed…
