I recently (4 months?>) aquired a 2004 Multistrada 1000DS - IT was in a bit of a state having sat idle for 2 years. I have replaced repaired and rebuilt a lot of it up to the point where its MOT time on saturday …however …!
She is a little reluctant to sit and idle and i have trawled the manual for a little more info such as adjusting the auto choke or something mechanical i can adjust and cant find a thing. on the rare occasions i have got her up to running temparature since the project she has idled a little - I am assuming its an MOT fail if this isnt sorted which would be devastating given the hours spent laying on a wet road fixing her!
As a fellow Multistrada owner, to adjust the idle etc you need to plug it in to a computer. As far as I know you need the Ducati computer to do it. I will check the workshop manual I have at home tonight and get back to you.
They are reluctant to idle when cold, the air-cooled motor seems to turn to a block of ice overnight.
Suggest also you contact Mike MD Racing on this forum too.
I dont think a bike needs to idle for a mot . I have mot bikes that did not idle . Daylight mot on a race bike being the most recent . What side of town are you getting it mot done ?
MoT v Workmanship. I’d guess a lot of us who are prepared to get our hands dirty have been there a few time.
Nice ego boost/glow of satisfaction when the man says “That’s fine” though.
(The closest shave I’ve had so far is the fork seals on a freshly rebuilt front end failing on the way home with my new MoT Cert. in my pocket. Moral? Don’t buy cheap pattern parts from the internet.)
New front tyre which i fully expected and that was that - (small discussion about the distinct lack of breaking from the rear brake but aside from that flying colours!)
Now all she needs is a decent blast to clear out the cobwebs - scarey thign is that after all the efforts i may be forced to sell her. Buggar!
The stepper motor on the throttle bodies can get gummed up due to not being oiled, which doesn’t help idling. The rear brakes are a pig to bleed and really you need to take the caliper off, which involves removing the rear wheel. But congratulations!
