Hi All,
After getting knocked off by some tw@ and having my bike written off, I’m going to start the endless task of looking for another…
I was riding a 1999 Yamaha FZS600 Fazer, which was also my first big bike. Had it 51 weeks, didn’t quite make the one year anniversary together :crying:
Insurance tried to fob me off with £1300 for the bike, but I’m fighting for more because it was definitely worth more than that - for sure.
As such, I’m looking for a new replacement around the £2k mark and wondered if anyone could recommend anything? Don’t want to go lower than a 600, or too much higher (petrol costs) and just wondered if anyone could recommend a reliable, yet fun bike! I use it to commute to work 20 miles a day round trip and for riding for fun at weekends… Bearing in mind I’m 24, don’t want to get anything too ugly
Don’t hold your breath with the insurance company, we all tend to over value our pride and joy.
Here’s a 1999 Yamaha 600FZS Fazer with just 12k on the clock at £1295.00. LINKY HERE It’s not mint, but hey it’s a 12 year old bike at the end of the day
Or a 2002 Yamaha 600FZS Fazer with 54k on the clock at £1495 LINKY HERE Insurance will argue it’s better than what you had.
That’s the exact evidence an insurance company will use to value your bike.
Cheers for those links Art, been spending a lot of time looking at them over the last 24 hours putting together a document to fight that my bike was worth more so already seen those bikes! Although I absolutely loved my Fazer… I feel it may be time to move on?
Just wondered what other people would recommend for my new (used) bike! I don’t have loads of money to spend, but could do something around the £2k mark for sure…
A thundercat would be a decent upgrade, if you can find a decent version. For 2K you definitely can, you will be used to it as it is a fazer engine, just with slightly better suspension, brakes and full fairing.
Groovy, whatever you do, DO NOT accept the first offer. They argued mine wasn’t worth more from the bikes he’d looked at as reference. I sent him a document that I put together showing 25 bikes of a similar age and milage varying from £995 to £2895… As a result they upped the offer considerably!! They are robbing bastards out for what they can get, I’m still losing money after settling, but he told me it was “incredibly unlikely” they’d give me more than a penny extra on what I settled on!!
What bike are you thinking bout getting to replace yours??
I dunno about a direct replacement because I prefer to buy outright than get finance.
Pondering an ER5 for commuting on and getting a sportier tourer for the weekends like a ZZR600 or something.
