A beautiful Fall afternoon ride in Wichita, KS - 10/22/05

Today was another absolute STUNNER of a Fall day…clear skies (initially anyway! ) and mid 70’s…I had to run a few errands this morning and early afternoon but was quickly home again to wash the bike and then take her for a nice “photo tour” of the Wichita area for my friends in the U.K.

I hope that you guys enjoy looking at the pictures as much as I enjoyed riding around Wichita taking them…I fear that there won’t be many days like today left before Old Man Winter decides to settle in for a few months.

What a gorgeous bunch of photos you had there mate! Thanks for share that and make me jelous of that weather! lol

Are you trying to rub it in about our shiddy weather and your great weather? lol

Nice pics & clean looking bike! Nice one

No no…I’m actually in “mourning”…Winter will be here soon. In a month or so, you guys will still be riding and my bike will be up on the stands in my garage for at least a couple of MONTHS. (Kansas winters are generally VERY VERY cold and it’s just not practical to ride…)

Thanks for the kind words about the bike…a few more mods (Gilles rear sets and Brembo brakes) in the Spring and she’ll be where I have envisioned her to be.

Gregman… Wowwweeeee… It looks like a beautiful part of the world that your’e in… Amazing land marks… wide roads and blue skys…

There are rumours that we are going to have a nasty winter here too… Not looking forward to it!! Boo Hoo…

Nice bike by the way… Gonna get myself another 750 for next year… Looking froward to that… He he he…

I’m actually from Boston, MA…I’ve only moved to KS in the last 3 years. (I needed to be here to help my Mom through breast cancer). I HATED it here at first but have come to appreciate what Kansas has to offer now.

I’ll look forward to seeing pictures of your new 750 next Spring then.

And guys, is there ANYTHING in the world hotter than a good looking girl riding a sportbike?!

Looking good Gregman, keep on riding

Looks sooo nice over there man, I’d send you some pics of rainy, cold, foggy, miserable North West England but it was too wet to take the camera out.

Great shots and the idea behind them. Not even another bike or car in frame! Perhaps I’ll do the same around London sometime (will have to suffer other traffic) and I’ll probably get nicked for parking on the pavement in front of the various sights here. :frowning:

I happen to like the bike too! Mainly because I have a K4 750 in blue & white! It’s an almost perfect bike off the shelf.

Make the most of the fall. Our weather has just turned this week into the cold and rain typical of winter.

I’ve been to Boston and around Mass but so far not Kansas. Boston is quite “English’fied”.

I was working my way through the photo’s (beautiful musuem BTW) when I got to the river and wondered where she was! Started peering at the screen seeing if that thing in the middle of the river was her… Fortunately not!

I’m surprised there were any geese to photograph with your Can… They must be deaf Canadian geese.

BTW. Save your money on the brakes (change the rotors if needed to “Braking”) and spend it on suspension. There is nowt wrong with the standard stoppers (unless you are track racing at a high level).

Jay also had one so speak to him too. He loves tricking up the bikes - big time.

As you like girls on bikes check out this pic:

I wish there were more babes on bikes. There is sadly a lack of them. Still LB has a few! (You know who you are girls!)

Wish your mum a speedy recovery from all of LB’s members!!!

All the best from over the pond, Iain. (as opposed to over the hill)

Thanks, Ian…

My Mom has survived the radical masectomy and chemo and has been cancer free for about 2 years now. fingers crossed Hopefully, it is gone for good.

I’ll have to have a look at the link you posted from home tonight…I hit it briefly here at the office and decided that some of those pictures would be a bit difficult to explain to any co-workers who came by while I was looking at them. LOL

Great advice on the brakes…I briefly considered selling my K4 for the new K5 but have decided that the K4 has all the power/performance (and more) that I’m capable of using so I’m going to keep her and continue to mod her up to my tastes.

I’ll look forward to your “Live from London” shots.

“And guys, is there ANYTHING in the world hotter than a good looking girl riding a sportbike?!”

An average-looking girl riding a scooter?

So, what’s a Kansas winter? Do you get snow? How cold are you talking about? What about the autumn colours, didn’t see much red & gold in the photos yet, do you get them or is it still early?

Just a point of reference, my coldest winter in Helsinki was -37C (that’s about -35F)… But, yeah, I’m sooooo not looking forward to this winter, apparently it’ll be colder than the big freeze of 1962 (or whatever) when London was knee-deep in snow for ages and the Thames froze over. Time to arrange a garage for the Vespa and a winter coat for Paivi.

Good to hear your mom’s better. Does she ride a bike or pillion?

Hmmmm…come to think of it, I think I’m good for an “average looking girl on a scooter” too.

Kansas winters are cold (daytime highs in the teens (F)aren’t unusual)…windy…and usually dry. Just bitter…I very much prefer the wetter/milder winters of Boston, even if it DOES mean dealing with snow for months on end.

The leaves are beginning to change…we just had our first freeze overnight last night. I suspect the process will speed up considerably now.

Helsinki, eh? I spent a summer living in Simrishamn, Sweden…close to the same “neighborhood”, no? loved it there.

I conned my Mom onto the back of my racing quad (Suzuki Quadracer 250) long ago…I did a first/second/and into third gear wheelie with her on back and she has steadfastly refused to ride with me ever since. LOL No amount of begging or brow beating in the world would get her on the back of my sportbike. :crackup

Hey gregman,
Some realy good shots there The bike is also looking good along with the backdrops…i see you got some watsen indicators there, i have just got mine on my k4 1000 limited gixxer and they look the bolox
I will post some pics soon of all the small mods i have done when finished, i love giving my baby the personal touch

Thanks, man…

The K4 is a sharp looking bike.

I had to get a set of the Watsen indicators after seeing them on Jay’s old K4…they are usually the first thing people comment on when I take my bike out. A wicked killer look, for sure.

Fingers crossed indeed. Pass on our best wishes anyway…

It was just one photo of the Aprilla. Still it was a good one (and not for the office unless you have a broadminded boss).

In the UK the K5 750 is only different from the K4 by it’s paint job (and I prefer the K4 scheme), so there would be no point in changing it. The K6 apparently is a good step up. Hopefully one will be at the NEC Bike Show that I’m going to this week. But either way K4/K5 750 vs K6 is still going to be down to the rider. Even an SRAD 750 in the right hands is awesome (and my old 97 would read 175 on the clock with standard gearing which is all my K4 will read 7 years on).

I’ll see what I can do on some K4 London pix.

What tracks do you have in your area that allow bikes?

Cheers, Iain.

Hi Vespa-girl, I take it paivi is your dog not your nickname…?

-37c is ridiculous. I guess cyrogenics really works.
