Time to get our asses into gear and look at what delights 2013 has to offer, so we’ve compiled a list to start us off based largely on what we’ve done before.
What we want to do is get our plans out there, up front, in the hope that some of you will think of additional ideas which we can compile on this list, so you all have an idea what’s going on over the year, and I’m weeely weeely hoping some of you will come forward to help out organising some of these events.
Over the weekend we’re going to set up a thread for each one in a new subsection of Ride and Meets, thus more specifics can be documented per event.
No more are we going to spring events one at a time on you all, nor sit back and do nowt for another year.
Here’s our list:
Airsoft Day
Poker night
Camping weekends
Photo days
BBQ events
France rides
Brands racing support
Bike dealer open days
Le mans trip with PJIsle of Man (none racing) trip
Pool nights
Ten pin bowling
Curry nights
Night at the dogs
Trip to Duxford museum
Trip to Duxford air show
Brighton Fish and Chip runs
Naturally some of these could happen every month - and I think that picking the same day of the month for say the curry night means that everyone knows something is always happening thus it takes less organising?
That make sense?
I spoke to Joby about a camping trip at the Xmas party after it suddenly popped into my head that the crazy weekends out in the fields beside The Barge Inn were wicked events. While we may not partake of that location necessarily I think it would be a blast to resurrect them.
St George’s Ride is already noted elsewhere so is not included, nor are the regular Jetstream ride-outs which are already the stuff of legend.
So let’s have some suggestions and watch out for more details being loaded up over the near future.
I’ll host a Garmin seminar at the OMC when I get my ar5e in gear. I’ve spoken to them about it already and subsequently done nothing about it. (Naturally). I was thinking some time in March. I’ll put a full agenda together but in summary it will cover models, installation, navigating, route planning, safety camera alerts and viewing and analyzing data when you get home.
If I can get a bike together, I’d love join you(s) on the the IoM trip (no camping though).
In fact, there may be a gang making the pilgrimage from the Barcelona area.
Having chatted with a few different people who have come to me for Android phone advice, I did wonder if I should do a similar thing. Go through how to get the best from your device, how to make use of cloud services, theming your phone, getting the best battery life, should you root (or maybe what is rooting) and are custom ROMs beneficial.
Off roading - definitely: I’ve been off roading at Golding Barn a few times - but last year it was even better to go with Alex and Elad (Ian) - we had a great laugh! I know some of the other LBers also had a few days and as Serrisan says - let’s do it again!
What I’d like to do is get a list of the main schools - such as Ady Smith (the KTM racer), Golding Barn etc - but also look at the prospect of some greenlaning. A couple of mates are going back to Golding Barn late Feb, but if we get a definite date for sometime in April /May, we can then decided on the venue. I called Ady Smith about his school about 5 or 6 years ago funnily enough - and it’s still going strong!
Box Hill meets and ride outs: I usually do these with Emsee (Martin) but as he has a guru like knowledge of all the roads and lanes in the south, am sure we could stick a few of these ride outs in the calendar.
Bike Modification Days at OMC - it would be good to have some technical days with Matt or any other willing volunteer about how we can legally do some mods ourselves.
Novice Track Days or Ladies Only Track Days - I am saying this as even though I have been riding a bike for coming up to a decade I have never done an ‘on road’ track day! I am sure there are a few of us who would like to gain our confidence on the track. The only reason I put a ‘ladies’ day is that sometimes it can be a bit less competitive (although of course most of the LB ladies can thrash the blokes on a track anyway :D)
what about the Festival of 1000 bikes at Mallory lots of classic racing plus get up close to yesteryears heroes Ago, Schwantz, Miller, etc always good for a weekend camping/pissup
