11/11

I hope you all had 2 minutes silence wherever you were. :)We did at work, and it was lovely that a building with 1000’s of people fell silent amd most people stood up.

Cant stand at the moment but paid my tribute.

Youngans were disrepectful, and they will be pulled aside later on the day, and have this marked on their records, as it is not on.

Otherwise, yes everyone paid their respects, and it was good to see.

Watched the three brave souls at the Cenotaph, especially Henry Allingham, determined to lay his wreath, very moving.

A day for the living to remember the fallen, the heroes, our saviors, Peace and good will to all.

by John McCrae, May 1915

(A soldier at the front line)

In Flanders fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses, row on row,
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.

We are the Dead. Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved and were loved, and now we lie
In Flanders fields.

Take up our quarrel with the foe:
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high.
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep,
though poppies grow
In Flanders fields.

By James Heron from “The Measure of a Man” 1923 In Flanders Fields poppies abound,
Where standing crosses mark your ground,
Where larks are singing gaily still,
But now, we hear their skyward trill,
For all the guns have ceased to sound.

The crosses tell us you are dead,
But flaming poppies tell instead,
That you are living now anew,
In hearts that caught the torch you threw
From Flanders Fields.

Though you are sleeping ‘Over There’,
We know that you are living here,
We loved you then, we love you still,
So long as poppies bloom, we will;
So long as larks sing in the air
Of Flanders Fields.

RIP Private Billy Wilson, Royal Sussex Regt. Dunkirk 1940

I had to go over and turn my office radio off at 10.59. cue loads of ‘what are you doing’ comments. people are either thick or insensitive.

RIP all those who have fallen serving their country’s Governmental desires

I never forget as my grandad was one of the brave who fought in the war.

amazing times the 20th century but we must not forget all those who fell in all wars…past present…heavens forbid the future…

the radio (well capital) went silent at 11 for 2 mins.

God rest the souls of those who died for everyone one of us…

Was driving, had radio 1 on which feel silent for 2 mintues, then they played the Xfactor Heroes song, very moving, esp when I drove past a memorial roundabout where everyone was paying they’re tributes, very sad. Couldn’t drive too well afterwards

all london buses were supposed to stop and switch off their engines for the two minutes silence. i did but there was a few others that didn`t. when they drove past i wanted to shout @ the tossers but out of respect for OUR HEROs i held it in.

all aircraft at heathrow stopped…air traffic control fell silent for 2 minutes…and i stood in the middle of the live taxiway with my headset pluged into the aircraft and paid my respects for the duration…my freinds and colluges of the past…who i joined up with in the army…some still with us…a 1 not anymore…

thanks for the memories guys…i could’nt of gotton threw it without you…

sleep tight jacko…you still owe me a tenner and i still have your cap badge;).

Primus.in.Indis…you know what i mean…

not so smiled:(.

The whole office fell silent - it’s a helpdesk so we would normally switch the lines off - but wasn’t needed as nobody called for the duration. In memory of my ancestors and everyone else who have given all so we can enjoy the liberties we have today… my respect to you all.

"They shall not grow old, as we who are left grow old.

Age shall not weary them, or the years condemn.

At the going down of the sun, and in the morning, we will remember them."

(off the top of my head so apologies if any of the quote is wrong).
