i ve been riding about on my hornet now for two years its been an excellent bike it does everything well apart from travel on a motorway so i was thinking of changing rides now i dont know if i should get a zx12r or honda blackbird need to consider everything (price, insurance, fuel (yawn), consumables servincing etc etc)
I can talk for zx12r as I currently have the A1 model, lovely bikes. If you take it easyish it won’t drink petrol, insurance I have only 1 years no claims and paying 135tpft and I am only 28!
personally favour the blackbird , the zx12r is great but it doesnt fit into the role it was designed for , blackbirds not as hard on consumables either tho the linked brakes get through pads pretty fast
I can vouch for the Blackbird. Fuel economy depends how much you cane it, but from the point of view of tyres, chains, brake pads etc, it’s very economical, particularly considering its weight and power. Finish is typical Honda, it just shrugs off neglect without a problem (which does sometimes lead you to not bother cleaning it for months ). When I was buying, I test rode both the Busa and the zx12, and the comfort swung it for me as I was doing a lot of Motorway miles at the time. The Busa would have been second but I was put off by tales of how they eat chains an tyres. I found the ZX12 crippling, but I am a bit of a tubby *******.
I love my Busa Never had chain trouble but the rear tyre will last 2000 miles two up and I ride quite smooth with the throttle. A bike with less power will use less tyres or you can try will power I just have fun Still returns 40 something to the gallon two up
BUGGER ME SIDEWAYZ AND CALL ME GEORGE THATS JUST CONFUSED ME MORE!!lol joking
my insurance for some reason is a hell of a lot more o the blackbird than it is on the zx12r im 24 years old and i have 1 years no claims hmmmm strange
The Blackbird will give you endless trouble free miles (Honda reliability & build quality) and comfort.
The Busa awesome power, quite low and wide, needs more maintenance than the Bird.
The 12R … forget it if you’re a short-@rse or if you want to do a lot of two-up riding. It’s narrower than the Busa and taller. Again, it has awesome power. Mine drinks fuel … but I can’t resist having fun on it. IMHO it’s the best looking of these three bikes, although I would have a soft spot for an all black Busa too.
I’d suggest you ride all three if you can, then make your choice. They’re all fine bikes … good luck!!
Glad some one else is also looking to upgrade my aging, but ever so relaible and loads of fun CBR may need to be relegated for something with more torque for longer runs, many of which I have been putting off doing but hope to no do this year. I have allways had a soft spot for fireblades, but I am trying to balance this off with comfort for long journeys so I too am lloking at blackbirds, if i do get one its gotta to be in the blue!
Me Dads has had is carbbed P reg Blackbird for years with no probs, iv borrowed it a few times and think its a great all round bike. It handles very well and has lots of power for when you get bored, as for the ZX iv not ridden one of those but i think it would be too big for me. P.S. Honda build qaulity is second to none and will just keep going.
the carbed blackbird is favoured more than the injected version , to b honest people see the journos writing the injections snatchy and immediatly take that as there own opinion , my personal view is that both are great bikes whether you get carbed or injection
zx12 is basically a oversized zx9 , very tall , long and quick bike but doesnt tour/commute anywhere near as well as a bird
