Your daily commute

I was just having fun with google maps new(ish) features and I got thinking that it might be interesting to get people to post there daily commute of favorite routes as some might take more interesting road than others for similar journey.
Here is mine and it is a bundle of fun on any dry day…
Frederic daily commute route

Great idea, however my commute is really boring:

Way in - Edgware Road, Marylebone Road, Southampton Row

Way out - Southampton Row - follow all the way through to Chalk Farm station, turn left up to the A41, follow through on this road to Colindeep Lane, and then onto the Edgware Road.

That’s it - 9 miles in 10 miles out

A206 to Old Kent Road to Westminster Bridge to Trafalgar Square. Reverse is more interesting when I tootle over Blackheath and go via Shooters will, back on to the A206.See quite a few nice bikes on the ride, the majority are faster than me…

Can’t get googlemaps to work on my laptop but:

08.25 Join A23 just before the A205 crossroads, by Streatham Bus garage.
Follow A23 down thru Brixton, up to Elephant & Castle, Boro High St, London Brg, Bishopsgate, Liverpool St, round the one-way by Gt Eastern St/Curtain Rd, and then up Kingsland Road. Returning is same route in the reverse, starting around 17.30.

Grey Bros K984 ***, or (more usually) black Cannondale bicycle, with LondonBikers blue stickers by the chainset.
Takes me 25 mins on Bros, 30 mins on bicycle, and yes I do stop at reds…

Great idea but not too sure I want every b@stard knowing where I park my bike at home or at work. But its usually from Rotherhithe through Borough and down to Westminster.

Off street CCTV covered parking at work, the start is not near my home, but in the generic location… I too don’t trust people to see where I park up either…

I work from home: quick shuffle across the landing and I’m there!

I’m not showing my daily commute, never seen a police car on there yet, no scameras, no traffic lights, only a few junctions, no zebra crossings, no roundabouts . . . just country roads across the fields in deepest Herts

what if someone see’s this thread and decides to follow you and then steal you ride?

Or rob your house when you’re at work?

yer I was just thinking that

I commute between Croydon and Westminster, 30 mile round trip, every day. Currently go via Beulah Hill, Crown Point, West Norwood, Brixton, Stockwell, Lambeth Bridge. Very heavy traffic this morning West Norwood/Tulse Hill/Brixton for some reason.

Used to use the A23 through Streatham so I could use the bus lanes, but now decided the Norwood route seems quicker.

I do Croydon to West End. Recently been going via Elmers End, Crystal Palace, Dulwich, round the back of Brixton to Kennington, across Vauxhall Bridge, round the back of Westminster, Horse Guards, Traf square, TCR… Its taken the best part of four years for me to work out this route by trial and error! Even though the route is 16 miles as opposed to the 12 miles if you go straight up the A23 it still saves me about 10 minutes on my journey time. This is purely down to the number of junctions with traffic lights. Still go via Norwood every so often. Easyrider do you use Milkwood Road to get round Brixton? Brixton is sometimes okay but the roadworks at the moment are slowing it right down through there.

Well mine is very boring as far as routes go - just straight down the A1 with the only deviation from that route being to Old street. The only interesting bit about it are my other road misuser counts

Points today are as below:

Pedestrians missed as a result of my actions alone: 4 (thats a whopping 40 points)

Bicycles: 0 (no points for me :frowning: )

Bikes: 0 (nil points)

Cars: 3 (thats 6 points)

Trucks: 1 (that’s 1 point)

do you use different route in and out? i like to come in through A21 Lewshem, elephant and castle, waterloo bridge, in the morning, and in the afternoon go out through limehouse link, backwall tunnel, A20. At different time with different road conditions, i just like to do it differently, cannot explain it.:stuck_out_tongue:

it feels completely different to go one direction through the same road from the other

At the moment im working in Welyn and its country lanes and fast carridge ways for me which are great fun.

You don’t think that my map start where I live and finish just where I work, or do you?
Thieve my be disappointed by having to look for it for a while  + iti s a Triumph so they do not really stole them as they might breakdown when chased by coppers…:w00t:

Good luck to them on that one but it is true about everyday you go riding… what if they follow you home…
This said, they are going have to be very good and discrete as it is hard to follow me on my commute without getting spotted (even thou I have no mirrors):stuck_out_tongue:

Never used that road, normally use Effra Road but first day back today after 2 weeks leave and Brixton was a nightmare. Thanks for the tip!

Had fun at Parliament Square this evening, lights from Whitehall were stuck on red! And I was stuck behind a van with the slogan on the back saying “red is the new green”. How apt.
