It’s kind of hard to be believe but our cyclist friends want ‘Strict Liability’ which would mean that in any road traffic collision the blame would automatically be apportioned to the Motorist!! No consideration, no court case… you pay end of…
Just read it.
The guy’s a fckin dck.
I drive, ride and cycle (nice weather only
) and I think he’s an idiot. Blame lies with the peson in the wrong… WHOEVER it is. If he thinks for one second that this will change drivers’ attitudes, he sorely mistaken. It’ll encourage cyclists to act like they own the roads (more so than they do now).
Harsh, but i see it everyday on the commute in, red lights run, pavements used, and motorists ignored. I think as soon as they start contributing to the roads - tax/insurance/responsibilty/accountability then their voices should be heard. All you hear is them moan about safety on the roads, yet they want to use it with no insurance - how many are going to stand up and pay if they take your wing mirror off, or make your swerve your P&J into another car or similar.
On the flip side, I think it’s a good think that people cycle to work - just stop making demands, and follow the rules like everyone else.
Ok, still p*ssed off. Loggin into that site to let him know what I think… wish me luck! lol

cyclists should not cycle on road allocated for car, motorbikes, lorry, etc. (as it happens in all Europe) They should use the green cycling roads where there are; if those roads are not allocated they should walk on the foot path. If accidents happen on the road allocated for car driver, the cyclist should be considered 100% liable for it.
I understand that in London cyclists do not have enough cycling paths, but they should not invade “car’s road” and they should be fined every time they do it. it is like as motorbikes start to ride on foot paths and complain about the people that walk on it.

What a prat. At least there’s some common sense in Government’s response :w00t:

It would not be appropriate to change the law to provide that motorists should automatically be liable for any accident involving a motor vehicle and a pedestrian or cyclist. This would lead to unfair results in cases where the motorist is driving entirely responsibly and the accident is caused by the irresponsible behaviour of the pedestrian or cyclist. The current law enables the court to decide where responsibility for the accident lies and to award damages accordingly.*
I agree, its sort of good that people cycle to work, but why does the fact that they cycle mean we are all so massively indepted to them that they can act like complete pricks and ignore everybody else thinking everybody has to avoid them? If you want to ride on the roads, follow road rules, or get mown down.
I joined that guy’s forum and pm’d him…
The guy is obviously a nutter and with 28 posts I dont think he has much support. But anyways seeing as that is the forum of the biggest antagonist of the motorbikes in bus lanes decision, why are there ZERO posts about big scary bikes in bus lanes scaring away all the cyclists?
Hey, I’m a driver, cyclist, pedestrian and biker. Good and bad in all sectors I’m afraid.Sorry, but the road is not just for motorised transport, we need to get on and behave well whatever we ride. I’m always shocked about this animosity between the two areas of two wheelers, I expected us to get on as there are so many similarities.
Can’t be doing with this rivalry I’m afraid, very counter productive.
The words tar feathers and brush comes to mind.
Stay chilled folks!
The petition closed over a year ago with only about a thousand people signing. The response included this:
“It would not be appropriate to change the law to provide that motorists should automatically be liable for any accident involving a motor vehicle and a pedestrian or cyclist. This would lead to unfair results in cases where the motorist is driving entirely responsibly and the accident is caused by the irresponsible behaviour of the pedestrian or cyclist. The current law enables the court to decide where responsibility for the accident lies and to award damages accordingly.”
So it isn’t really an issue, but in response I would like to propose that cyclists are always liable in collisions with pedestrians. And most carry insurance.
There are so many counter arguments to all these things. Let two wheelers stick together I say.

Its the same rule that this government is putting through for sex with prostitutes…no defence you are guilty full stop…even though its between two consenting adults…I am suprised that this government didnt agree to it…given its hatred of motorists…
I think in America the car driver has a duty of care to all pedestrians that makes him liable unless proven not…
It looks like just one extreme car-hating loony. Some of the other cyclists who posted were much more balanced. We occasionally get extreme views posted on LB - does not mena they reflect teh views of all bikers.

they once thought the world was flat…extreme ideas are not always right or wrong just ideas that only a few people believe in…bikers, ie motor, and bikers, ie cyclists, do seem to have an undecent level of hatred for each other…especially when a good deal of bikers are cyclists…not sure many cyclists are bikers though if you get my drift…
