X10 Security and Winter Care

Hi Guys,

I’ve just bought an X10, my first scoot, and was wondering if you could offer any advice on security and winter care.

Is it worth installing an alarm or will the immobiliser with a disk lock and chain be enough?? I’m planning to park my scoot in a station car park at the end of our street over night. This is a public area with CCTV. The plan is to chain it to a metal barrier, possibly under a cover.

Is it worth Datatagging or using any other system like this or Smart water?

I’m sorry to ask so many questions but I was also wondering if I should cover any metal parts (apart from disks) in oil to protect against the winter weather and salt?

Any other advice would be gratefully received!

Thanks and Happy New Year

Good fully comp insurance and a bottle of ACF50 .

Thanks NumNum. Good advice. I’ll order up some ACF50.

About the only thing you could do to keep it 100% secure is take it to bed with you .

I may be an ignorant, what’s X10?

Smart tagging dots, really? Do you really want your bike back after was taken by someone and something was done with it (or not)?

Piaggio Scooter available in 125, 350 and 500cc although nothing bigger than 350 is imported into the UK. I have ridden the 350 which has a very smooth and efficient 33bhp engine that will give nearly 80mpg round town. Whilst performance was OK I found it to big and heavy to be a great commuter. A 300 Vespa is far better for that. But to be fair the 350 and 500 are really aimed at longer distance riding.

Having had three bikes nicked… It’s a horrible situation. Just do everything you can. And never, ever think “I’ll only be five minutes and it’s a pain locking it up,”

welcome probably best having disc lock and chain lock with an immobilizer but no security is 100% theft proof.

Thanks Everyone, I really appreciate you sharing your views.

I’ve got a bottle of ACF50 and have ordered an Almax chain which will hopefully help keep the scoot in bed!!

The x10 comes with an immobiliser and Alex at Almax suggested an Oxford Big Boss may be useful as long as it has a 16mm shackle.

I’m really sorry to hear about the bikes you guys have loved and lost, but thanks again for giving me the benefit of your experiences.
