X-Ring problem?

Back at the NEC show, I was going to buy a new O-Ring chain for hubbys Fazer 600, but was told the X-Ring was better, so bought that instead.

Since then, hes had to keep adjusting it weekly, surely thats not right! His old O-ring only needed adjusted every 6 months or so.

Any ideas?

I guess that the 2 chains were different brands, and therefore different quality. X-rings are supposed to be better than O-rings.

Chains often need regular adjustment in the first 500 miles, but should then settle and need less adjustment if they are well maintained.

That’s unusual unless its a cheap x-ring… Was it D.I.D.? If so that’s really odd as I got 24,000 miles out of a D.I.D x-ring and probably adjusted it 20 times - 15 of those being in the last 500 miles of it’s life

The only difference in an ‘O’ ring and an ‘X’ ring chain is the shape of the sealing ring… nothing else!

X ring holds the grease in better than O ring.

is he over adjusting the chain ?..Ive known people to adjust a chain on the main stand,so when the bike sits on the road the free play in the chain almost disappears thus stretching the chain !

Some chains on some bikes do that. Try running it slightly slack … only an extra half inch of slack though. If it stays at that tension, then leave it.

My ZX12R has this strange characteristic, so the chain runs with slightly more play than manual says to run, but I never need to adjust it. If I tightened it up, it would do just as you described.

What make is the chain? Cheap chain are a false economy. I only ever use DID chains,

this has nothing to do with ****-rings does it?.

Who are you asking? … Mine is DID.

Its a gold DID X-ring. Thanks for all the ideas, putting it down to just the bike tbh. Hes not over adjusting it, and cant think of anything else it could be right now.

All chains will stretch a fair bit at first kinda beding in so to speak.

My d.i.d x ring vm moved a bit in the first few weeks but then settled down.

i cant see a fazer 6 causing the chain much strain unless hes stunting it everywhere ?
