Worth Having Decent Boots...

Just to add to this BS, if the chain snapped then
a) it shouldn’t lash due to the snap (though it might flail due to being pulled still)
b) it would only cause flail damage within the plane of travel eg rear numberplate, inside casing.

The casing might then explode as the chain bunched up on the front sprocket, but I would think the engine would stall first.

Agree, I’ve a pair of Oxtars and on my recent off I seem to have “tweaked” my ankle leaving it a bit sore as my foot twisted. However for me the protection around the heel and ankle area is more to save me from a serios break, it’s never going to stop a broken leg though - anyone see the BBC Air Ambulance programme earlier in the week - don’t think the boots would have saved that nurse from that injury though!!

By the way Ratty wears just his Sidi’s and Knee sliders obviously!!!

The boots she had on weren’t great, a better pair would have meant less damage to her ankle but I susspect she still would have broken her leg quite badly, I really thought it she’d have to have the leg amputated, I was amazed that the surgeon’s manage to piece it all back together, bloody amazing! Was sickening to see her leg like that  but not as sickening at the though of Ratty riding around in nothing but Sidi’s and knee sliders   lol :hehe:

Was out with Meeks earlier in the year and his chain snapped, luckily it just went sliding of down the road behind him.

No doubt a chain could do some serious damage, but that story is just ridiculous :stuck_out_tongue:

Defo…

I had a fall last night and if it wasn’t for my HG boots I would not be at work today…

You will never know when you will need them.

oww, as a side note on boots I went for a* smx plus as they seemed to offer the best ankle protection that actually fit me (large flipper feet ;)) didnt want to scrimp on boots having broken my ankle a few years ago :crying:

It does sound highly unlikely to me but nevertheless its a good argument for always wearing proper kit.

Come on its been almost 5 mins since we had that old chestnut dragged out and aired again???:w00t:

Funny you say that, yesterday I was driving on the A12 towards Romford and a guy on one of them 3 wheeled scooters, you know the one … huh I forgot his name ride:D, The bloke in his 50s+ was going nicely along at 50mph with Sun Glasses on, no helmet… I passed him and though to give him a mouthfull but I decided that if he wanted to die who am I to stop it… on the other hand I did look around for a police car. Was going to get their attention and point them in his direction… none around:(

So that… is the most stupid thing I have seen, I wish I would have snapped a photo clearly showing his number plate but didn’t wanted to risk having accident trying to fiddle with the phone.

A trike or a piaggio MP3 type bike?

I know trikes you don’t have to wear a helmet, wonder if the MP3 is a grey area?

yeah one of them, but aren’t they scooters??

There is an MP3 ‘LT’ with a wider wheelbase that can be ridden on a car license (with not even a CBT)…not sure where the helmet rules would fall on that one

no helmet required but Piaggio recomend the use of one.

the question you should be asking is will they pay congestion charge or not

Flannel…

i got hit by a van side on while on my bike and smashed my ankle up, i rode home with a dislocated ankle and it was the most painful thing i have ever had to do. i was changing gear with my left arm to change up. if he didnt notice it happeneing then he wouldnt have the adrenaline rush that you get so surely this would have hurt like MAD.

if the chain with through engine casing i would guess that the boot wouldnt do much better? maybe i wasnt there though!

How about tried to pull awauy with disc lock still attached? oops !

I got punted off the other weekend at Oulton. Right leg got stuck under the bike against the exhaust. My Sidis not only stopped the footpeg going through my ankle but stopped the exhaust burning through my leg (the Marshals couldnt get to me easily so I was there for a good minute). All I got was a couple of relatively minor burn blisters just above the top of the boot and a twisted knee from trying to kick the bike off.

Personally I rate Sidis

A lot of people I know use Daytonas because they have specific ankle support technology: http://www.daytona.de/english/quality_e/safety.html

Original story is probably complete borrocks.

Back to the boots. Sidi’s are very good but all the tests point to BMW Santiago boots as being a bit better.

Bu**er, I hate BMW.

(I speak as an owner of one.)
