I doubt my reaction would be"Ah, I seem to have lost my foot…best do a u-turn, get it, and ride to the nearest hospital (without changing gear of course)"
I can’t for a second believe that it’s possible to traumatically amputate your lower leg without even noticing!
If the chain has hit the leg hard enough to cut through the bone like a knife through butter, what’s the chances that a thin piece of leather would stop the chain??
What a load of rubbish, the noise alone would give the game away, let alone the feeling.
That said, of course, wearing trainers whilst riding a bike has to be one of the stupidest things you can do. I know, I’ve done it and suffered the consequences.
That being said, the most common type of foot injury is crushing injuries to the foot/ankle from the bike falling on it - usually at low speed - so check that whatever footwear you’re relying on has enough sole stiffness and ankle protection to prevent this. Broken metatarsals are a git to recover from.
I’ve heard of a guy who laces got caught in the chain and sprockets, think trainer came off and he got thrown off the bike, ended tragically unfortunately
:w00t:
urrm so as a newbie, wot exactly is the chance of something like this happening…i mean i know bikes aren’t the safest things in the world, but that’s just ridiculous (and worryingly worrying)!
guy last week on a tuono was in front and all we saw was loads of smoke we all pulled over and his chain had snapped and gone through the engine casing.
Now I have sidi’s and as comfy as they are I am not 100% sure how well they’d protect my ankles in an off, why don’t you give them a bend left or right? I have tried to find boots which are a bit more ridgid around the ankles but difficult with little size 5 feet as not many boots are made in this size because of course, ladies don’t ride bikes Still better than trainers though
