Hot Stuff! Well done, just remember that a little twist on the right hand can mean a whole lot of trouble too! Enjoy riding, take it easy while you learn the ropes and the handling. Practice braking on corners, in straightlines, etc… You’ll be surprised how often you need them if your ride fast!
indeed, well done on passing your test.
Do take heed on what others have said though. R1s are amazingly quick piece of machinery and you need to show a bit of respect for such a bike. just remember the throttle goes both ways dude…
Hi guys, first off thank you all so much for the kind comments regarding passing the DAS (couldn’t believe it when he said that there was nothing to write on the sheet as the ride was 100% clean).
Proper community of people we got here on this site (not very often do you find that on the internet).
I am in the process of considering riding to work as it costs me the best part of £50 a week on petrol in a 3.2 litre Porsche so I set out and checked the journey out. Most of it was M25 which I really wasn’t looking forward to but the filtering isn’t as bad as I had thought. Then on the clear straights…WOW the acceleration was immence! On the way back I opened her up a little and didn’t realise that I had the front wheel off the ground until it touched the floor again…the power on these is emmence…Love it!
Like everyone else has suggested I will take further training and deffo check out the ride-safe course.
Can anyone recommend some decent tyres as the ones on there at the moment are K2 road legal semi slicks which need to be warm to operate properly.
Again…much love to this site. Awesome community of peeps here. Will deffo check out Cubana one day soon aswell. RESPECT!!!
MacP - some pics for you mate as requested.
Thanks - Sunny.
Gongratts 2u on passing. I,ve got dunlop d208rr,s on my r1 and i,ve found them a really good tyre you could give them a go. Different people likke different tyres.
if you are looking for mileage then go for avon av46 on the rear. if you looking for normal
riding (haha) bt014…
“if you get overtaken by a smaller bike” hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha…N E V E R…
Pirelli Diablo H or Diablo Corsas seem to be the general consensus for sport bike tyres, though I’ve not used 'em myself
I used Bridgestone BT014s on the R6…Good tyres…Good grip and warm up quickly, but I’d say the Pirellis offer better grip from what the track day tyre selling guys tell me.
Congratulations Overboost!! You’re bike looks wicked.
Well done mate.
And that is a sensational looking bike Keep it that way eh?
Congrats on passing…stay safe my man don’t become a stastic…
Getting some Bridgestone BT014’s tommorow. £230 drive in - drive out. Not a bad price?
Well done mate and enjoy. Classic R1 you have there fella!
Erm yes it is a bad price. Next time you might want to try BFM, pretty much always cheapest for tyres.
Still if you run a Boxster you can afford over the odds
Forgot to add that BFM are selling those at £158 the pair…
Overnight delivery and fit em yourself or for £15 quid at a local tyre place.
Do BFM have a website mate? I thought it wasnt too much of a bad price considering that includes taking the wheels off and fully fitting them?
Oh and I don’t drive a Boxter…horrid things. A proper 911.
Firstly, congrats, secondly enjoy !! thirdly please take advice of all us “oldies but goodies” and dont let the “buzz” take over the rational thinking out there? Remember some cagers are ba****ds who shouldnt be on the road (or just hate to be passed by us bikers)
Know what you mean about saving money riding to work on bike as opposed to taking the Porsche…me too !! In fact mine sits in the garage till weekend, (then im usually out on bike so its mostly ALWAYS put away!) But then ive got me trusty Mondeo if i need a “runaround” car?..ha ha But yeh, deffo it will save u time and money…
Also been there done that with the front wheel in the air without knowing you’d done it bit !!!
HA HA u beat me to it !!! Agree Boxster ??? Horrid things !!!
i’m with Joe on this one
diablo corsa III, michelin 2CTs are good as they have relatively harder centres with softer outers - litre bikes tend to tear up the centre a bit quicker. i’ve had the diablo corsas and pilot powers in the past and they’ve been good tyres
i’m going to go with the michelin’s when i’m through the dunlop 218s mine came with
Everyone’s got a Porsche??
Riiigggghhhttt.
I’ll agree they are nice motors though…for four wheels
