After finding that the pair I have are fine in most weather, in the cold they aren’t very warm.
I find undergloves to be uncomfortable and don’t particularly like them, and I can see 2 options.
Heated grips - Having spoken to Westie have been told these are great, but don’t think they will stop my fingers getting cold, I might get a set fitted anyway.
Winter gloves - A warm pair would be nice, so what can you recommend?
I’ve was looking at some winter gloves for a few weeks and looked at a lot of reviews & asked on here & in the end I went for the Alpinestars jet Road Goretex @ £79.99
They claim to be 100% waterproof & warm - Ridden in the rain twice with them so far and they do what they say they do Im really happy with them. Not much in the way of protection though, just a carbon fibre knuckle guard but the rest of the glove is leather with kangroo leather on the palms & they are quite long with 2 fasteners so I think you’d be ok if you did have an off. They took a couple of hours to get used to after wearing summer gloves but they feel good now.
They are really warm - I rode the other night when it was pretty chilly around midnight and my hands were nice & toasty, the gloves are breathable so your hands wont get too sweaty so I dont think you’ll need heated grips with these so personally I’d save the money & buy a decent set of gloves.
They arent cheap but I didnt have to pay for mine as my mates did a whip round for my birthday and gave me a £100 HG voucher so I got the gloves and a tail pack
we have 100’s of alpinestars jet road goretex in stock come and see me john and rex judds for you 15% discount or we can post them out to you for an extra £2.50
I bought the Alpinestars jet Road Goretex last year.
Completely waterproof, I did have to wear some inners on REALLY cold days and I bought a size too large by mistake, (not sure if they are sized larger, bought same size as my Spada Carbo gloves and they are a bit roomy) but can recommend them…
I got a pair of them a couple of weks ago ,they seem to be waterproof (touch wood) but are quite thin, coming home this evening i was begining to feel a bit cold on the digits, not sure if they will stand up to a early morning winter .
I use a pair of Alpinestars. I forget the model, but they cost about £80 I think. They’re full Goretex and really, REALLY worth the money. I’ve NEVER been cold in them and never had them get wet (on the inside). After a ride’s worth of getting used to the extra padding and the effect this has on handling, I can ride just as quick in them as in summer gloves.
I’m looking forward to bringing them out of storage.
Used the Rev’it HydraTex all last winter and they are still good now. Completely waterproof and warm. My little finger gets cold when doing a long m-way run in the freezing cold though.
They have very thin palms so feel is good but also have hard knuckles and palm protection (like normal race gloves) so can use them for fast riding too. It was raining on my CSS day and they said they were happy for me to use them.
After these couple of chilly spells in the morning i can now comfirm the havarssons are not very warm, when the temperature does decide to fall expect cold hands .:crying:
I just got myself a pair of heated inner gloves. Plugged them into the battery lead comes out of the seat, up inside my jacket and down the arms to the gloves. I like that idea, so if it rains and my winter gloves get wet, i can use my spare gloves the next day and still be nice and warm.
Very glad i got them. ( after 30 years of riding, it’s about time i had some warm hands)
I got some Dainesse (sp) D-dry gloves £34.99 … lovely and toasty with thinsulate lining, waterproof etc… my hands were freezing after half an hour this weekend and it’s not even very cold yet. Might have to get another pair :ermm:
Anyone know of a good pair at the cheaper end of the market? I’m a medium man’s size glove (it’s the double jointed thumbs… i’m a freak)
Warmest gloves I’ve tried by some margin are Heine Greicke Pathans - THey have two fingers, i.e. your index and middle finger are kept together and ring and little fingers, although internally they’re separated. This keeps them warmer, much warmer than any other gloves I’ve tried. Only thing is some people have trouble getting used to them, although i didn’t, and they’re not armoured.
heated grips help a bit, I’ve got some hot Grips on mine and i do like having them but they don’t help much witht he outside of your fingers so not a complete solution. you could look at some bar muffs (or wahtever they are called). they don’t look cool but will keep the wind off and help keep your hands warm.
Another vote for Alpine Stars and the ones I had stood up well in a crash - they were a bit burnt but I still wear them now (on occaision) and they are still warm (but not as warm as then…:ermm: ) and waterproof too.
I don’t wear them so much now as with heated grips and hand protectors on the AT (yes I know it’s still broke…) having winter gloves isn’t so important and can wear thinner ones like the Halvarrssons with no cold digits
I’ve got a pair of Dainese Gortex Winter Gloves for those early morning rides. There great and my hands feel nice and warm at the end of the ride although they do take some getting used to due to the extra thickness.
