Winter Gear

It’s getting to that time of year again when the winter gear is having to come out! I was wondering if anyone can recommend a good textile jacket for the winter as the one I used last year is well past its best. I was looking to spend £200-£300 on a good one that will last a few years, but there’s so many out there that it’s a nightmare finding one.

Hein Gericke constantly do well in reviews of affordable gear. i’d buy their stuff if I was after similar kit.

Rukka have been mentioned lots of times but i’m not sure about prices.

i just where more layers and kagool or full breathable rain suit to keep cold air out.

I was just in the Hein Gericke shop yesterday trying on one of their Cruise jackets, It was a nice piece of kit and reasonably priced too. The Rukka stuff looks pretty good but it’s quite pricey compared to the Gericke stuff.

Personally, I’m not a huge fan of the ‘all weather’ type jackets. Never seen one I fancied sliding down the road in, and since you buy them to wear in the worst (therefore most likely to bin it) weather, I’m now sticking to leathers all year around.

I had some top line Dainese stuff, and when it got wet it got heavy and cold and sat around the house for 8 months of the year anyway.

We had a big discussion along these lines not long ago Rusty, hunt back through these sections and see what everyone thinks.

But buy to suit you, and don’t forget to take a fleece or something to represent what you’ll normally wear under it, or just get a size bigger.

nothing like the feeling of getting off your bike from the commute home…

knees lacking blood flow to bend,
Fingers needing a crowbar to release from the handlebars,
rain soaked to look like you just pissed yourself,

Lookin’ double hard in your summer clothin…

Can’t wait!

Gerike stuff is great value for money. Used to use it all the time myself. I did have a pair of rukka trousers until my last off. Got to admit they were great, had started to leak a little to give soggy danglies in torrential rain but other than that they have been superb. Had them for 5 years. They did a good job in the crash I had, theres not much left now but I would recommend them. Still say Gerike stuff is better value for money though.

I must say that I will be going for Gerike stuff for the winter, but I’ll still be wearing my leather trousers. I find the leather trousers are usually quite warm, so I just pop some golf wet weather trousers over the top to keep them dry and keep the wind out, works a treat

I think that’s the way I’ll be going this time round. The leather trousers with waterproofs over the top works pretty well, it’s just the jacket that I have problems with. After a bit of looking around on the web I think the Gericke jacket seems to be the best idea.

I’m having the same problem at the moment. I just can’t seem to get the right jacket, at the moment I have one of the Alpinestar stunt flow jackets (i think thats what its called?) and I’m really not getting on with it. Also after a recent crash it didn’t hold up well at all and I’m glad it has a fore arm protector or I would have had a nasty graze.

Gerike jackets do look a lot more better made and I just need to sort one out for myself but need the money

FURYGAN! Ive just bought their ‘Three in one’ jacket and its f**kin great!

A waterproof layer, removable. Zip in and out.

A Thermal layer, Removable. Zip in and out.

You can interchange the layers and also can attach the jacket to a pair of trousers by simply attaching the zip at the base. Lots of pockets for phones and wallets. And a damn cool look!! Pucka stuff. Give it a try. £160!!

Bought mine at the Kings Road, a shop called…Gorgeous! (Honest!)

Theres only about three dealers of it in London so its pretty exclusive stuff and it fits incredibly well. I wanted Furygan for ages and couldnt find a dealer for ages.

Gerikes fine…except everyone and his mother has it.

Cheers Yello, I’m off work early tomorrow so I’ll try to get down to the place on the Kings Road on my way home.
