So I just went down to HG in Clapham to catch the end of the sale. Got myself a summer jacket (just in time for winter). It’s great during the day but gets quite cold at night due to wind/mesh. Was wondering if anyone here was using any windproof base layers and have recommendations?
And yes, I did put a jumper on but it’s still quite chilly. I was looking at the ones on Infinity’s website but are they any good? Don’t want to pay 30-50 quid and be disappointed!
I’ve got on of the EDZ windproof shell layers that pack down to nothing. It’s great as I can keep it under my seat all year and it’s there when I need it. Plus HG are doing them for about £15 at the moment - if you can find your size.
In fact I’m tempted to get the trousers as well to wear under my Draggin jeans.
My Spada jacket came with a nice wind/water proof overcoat and it works a treat to get the heat up. It’s just right on those chilly summers nights.
Not sure how well the EDZ would work but it seems right for the job. I would prefer something to go over the jacket as you then have more layers closer to the skin and can keep more heat in. Mesh jackets still provide some warmth for the arms so might be an option to just look for a cheap waterproof overcoat. They store quite light usually
Lidl did some last time round, very effective but them EDZ’s are the best.
…plus if you get an XL one you may be able to fit it over your jacket instead of under it.
My old Frank Thomas jacket has an inner water/wind proof layer so i might end up using that underneath. I’ll check out HG chiswick to see if they have any stock of those EDZ though. The one in Clapham was very empty. Quite a saddening sigh compared to how it was just half a year ago
Thanks for the input! Is the EDZ stuff quite durable by the way? Wondering how it will fare as an outer layer.
I haven’t had it for long and have only used it twice but it’s very thin material - it has to be to pack down that low. The Hangar Lane HG had a S and XL on Sunday and the Kenton one had a M, I think. But who knows if they’ll still have them.
EDZ.
+1 EDZ… microlight, you won’t even feel you’re wearing it it’s so thin. Easily goes over 3 layers of clothing then jacket on top. wore it a few times in winter when I used to ride for a living. My body wasn’t cold at all but unfortunately my hands were freeeeeezinnnnng
Cool! I’ll give them a call over the weekend and see if they still have any in stock! Cheers guys
