i have just bought a brand new dell pc and it is installed with vista. it looks quite good, but have never used it before. so, does anyone here have any knowledge of it or some little hints and tips that might help me please.

Got one for my in laws a few months ago - tip: reinstall Vista from the disc that came with it - should reinstall it without all the sh1t trial software that they ship it with, which slows it down no end.

If you have used XP before mate, it’s not any difference in terms of ‘usage’
There it’s lots of more eyecandy … and supposedly new security features.
Mine hard ever crashes … but apart from that, I don’t think I’d re-install … just spend some time in the control panel and unisntall all the crap u don’t need !

All the big manufacturers offer XP variants of their machines. If you want Vista because it’s the ‘latest’, then that’s your choice. But it is a RRPITA. For anyone else contemplating buying a new PC, insist on the OS of your choice, not theirs.

I think it will need a service pack before I’ll even think about putting Vista on my machine.
i wanted a new pc, i dont know enough to insist on a particular os. i just assumed vista was better as its newer, proving the phrase “ASSUMPTION IS THE MOTHER OF ALL FECK UPS” to be very true. i still have xp from my old laptop so might re-install it.
I would say stick with it, I have and quite like it now I have ironed out all the niggles.
There truely is nothing good about Vista, well not until they finish building it…Microsoft have this thing about selling products for loads of money and finish building them once they start getting some profits in…would really expect this from a one-man band business really!?
I would suggest putting a copy of XP on, at least you know you’ll be able to move your mouse without being asked to confirm that you actually want to do it!
