Window shopping for a new bike HELP

so, i got a letter this morning with the valuation of my bike (its ok, but im appealing it anyway)

i then got a call an hour or so ago from my insurers to say that they have recieved payment for my bike (minus the salvage fee as i want to sell it on myself)) & the hire bike will be collected a week on tuesday…

so… now i need to find a new ride…

feel free to chime in with opinions, im thinking of an sv650 (faired) -altho i have yet to test ride one…

needs to be comfy and not to harsh on my back,
good on motorways and long journeys,
good with pillion,
economical,
fun to ride, aswell as practical & must be able to get a givi box on it…

fazer will be up for sale when i get it back…

why not fix the fazer?

considering you have only had it a few weeks

CBR600F is the default choice, or maybe a Thundercat (getting on a bit now) or a VFR maybe.

Or consider finance and get a new Honda. They may still be doing 0%.

You had an SV650 - didn’t it kill your back?!!

Er-6F is very comfy and lots of fun! And does quite a good trick of pretending to look like a sports bike! In the States they are called a Ninja!!

BMW F650GS / G650GS / funduro

Honda NT700X

Suzuki DL650 weestrom

Kwak versys650

Yamaha XT660 (although very vibey, so might not suit your back)

are you seeing the theme? any of those would suit all your needs, although would probably push the pillion a bit, comfy seat for a passenger, but you want a 1000 really if you are going to be doing it very often.

ultimately though, you want a KTM 990 SMT, but the eco bit is out the window.

I’d say of the above list Id say the NT700 was the least fun, but the most economical. Yam, the other way round, the kwak and the weestrom a bit of both.

KTM 690 duke is very fun and does nearly the same MPG as the Honda, quite upright so shouldn’t do your back in but a bit sh1t for 2 up. you can pick up 640’s for very little now, but expect them to have been ragged.

because i spent so much time fixing the problems the last pwner bodged that i cant be arsed to spend any more time on it…

cbr600… hmmmm… altho the one i had really hurt my back…

iv been debating finance, but i dont like getting things on finance…

the sv did hurt my back, but it was a naked and it was a recent back injury at the time…

my back is ALOT better, infact i havent had any trouble really for a while (apart from the day after my off).

i did like the er6 a few months back… until i heard one with an aftermarket pipe… then i lost interet in it… maybe it was a crap pipe, idk…

nice list… but id also like something thats slightly atractive too…

am i being too picky?

VFR750?

i was just looking at the vfr800

whats the vtec-pre vtec all about?

not a single iota of clue…

power delivery is a lot more linear with the 750 (and the first year of the 800).

new CBR600F’s go for very cheap and very low deposit. big flat spot between 5k and 9k.

NC700 ticks most of those boxes and is extremely economical. Might be worth a look.

I think this’ll do you nicely. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/2003-HONDA-VFR-800FA-2-BLUE-WITH-FULL-HONDA-LUGGAGE-LOW-MILAGE-READY-TO-TOUR-/121174387433?pt=UK_Motorcycles&hash=item1c368e6ae9

No, I’ll admit that all of those, with the obvious exception of the KTM’s, have all been thoroughly thwacked with the ugly stick, especially the versys, but they tick all your other boxes.
