Wind?

Wow, what a wind today. Just took the bike for a quick run down to the supermarket, and the strength of the gusts really took me by surprise. I’m glad my bike weighs 165kg…I passed a guy on a tiny little scoot, and he was having real trouble staying upright. If this keeps up tomorrow, I might be taking the car down south (last week I went in pouring rain and lightning, but I get the feeling that strong gusts of wind would be worse on the open road).

What would make a difference to riding in a wind like this? A heavier bike? More powerful? Or is it just insane to even try?

strong gusts can be particularly ‘fun’ on bridges/overpasses etc. without much side protection on the road.
you can easily be pushed into another lane if you’re not careful.

Also to watch out for with winds is when you’re passing busses/lorries

Interesting map here:

The dark red arrows show winds of 65mph or more - currently most of the UK!!

I used to get blown all over the place crossing the river on my little scooter, the bike is a lot more stable but it still gets blown about a bit.

Wouldn’t fancy getting caught in a side wind on one of these…

A sail?
