Why ???

I wear mine to clear rice burners out of my way. It works a treat on the FJR with my white helmet on.

I find the more visible you are the earlier cars see you in the mirror, and the more likely they are to move over and make space when you are filtering. NB, daylight full beam makes you invisible, not visible as people can’t look directly at you without being blinded.

^^
i think there’s something wrong with that sentence… based on that concept is the sun invisible then???

My CBT instructor drove a big Pan European with the reflective Police-style stickers on. He said people behaved a lot better on the road around him on that, than on his other bike :stuck_out_tongue:

Commuting in a hi-vis vest (if Mrs Art had her way I’d never be allowed out without it) and a white helmet on the Bonne’ gets me so much filtering space up and down the M11/A406/A13, I feel like that fella way back parting the Red Sea at times

Do I look like an enforcement officer (see avatar) I don’t think so. It’s just a question of being seen. Having been seen I find that the vast majority of drivers will concede road space. Sure there are some that close the gap and hug the lane markings if they see you and others who can’t look into their wing mirrors without steering in that direction, but as a rule if I’m seen I get more space.

I’m not posing on my commute

Being 42 times more likely to die on the road or whatever it is, may as well stack the odds in my favour as much as I can…

The big scarf is the give away

i have a white helmet, well whiteish plus i do sometimes wear my highviz, most of the jackets ie rukka come with refelctive material

If you stare at it for long enough, everything will become invisible.

I’ve had a few people on my commute home recently who seem to be leaving their main beam on constantly, it makes it impossible to see anything in my mirrors other than glare

when you see the glare you know something’s behind you.

I always have my main beam (dipped) on, never off.

iirc where I learnt riding it’s law anyway, so it became a habit too

Yup, usually some twat on a scooter who is wearing no hi-vis or protective clothing of any sort but thinks blinding everybody else will make up for it.

Plenty on big bikes with main beams on all the time as well, my pet hate and bloody dangerous.

A little test for those that disagree. Get someone to hold a torch angled downwards and move it towards your face, you can still see the light and you know exactly where the torch is.
Next shine the torch in your eyes and you will have no idea in how close it is or not as it moves towards you.

If there was a “Like” I very much like this.

 well said

OMG!!! are those for real!!! if so i’d love to stock up on one of those :open_mouth:

yup, SWMBO rides those stinky, single horsepower bikes that you can get with a mind of their own and these jackets are popular amongst horse riders. Mind you, they do get considerably more abuse than bikers/cyclists from misinformed drivers…

Oi so do I, leave those nice 4 legged nice smelling beasts alone…they are more sociable than men! :stuck_out_tongue:

  oh man, funny ****…single horsepower

never seen the attraction myself (to horses that is!) - no brakes, poop everywhere and you can’t leave them in the garage when you’re not riding.

I don’t agree with any mode of transport without brakes - horses, skateboards, roller blades - I like to be able to stop when I want, not when the beast/nearby immovable object wants me to :stuck_out_tongue:
