Why do eyelids respond to gravity

OK this is just a bit random.

I noticed today that when I lif my head my eyelids close…why??

To recreate.

1: Stand infront of a mirror looking straight forward.
2: Lift your head upwards.

result for me is my eye lids close, why is that they shoul;d be controlled my muscles not gravity or have I just got knackered eyes?

Are you on drugs?

You wanna have a word with a doctor - sounds like your skin is too tight

No just slightly pissed, but I still want to know why eyelids respond to gravity

:hehe:

they don’t, otherwise your eyes would be permantley closed:w00t:

I’m just amazed that given the amount of skin we all have, each morning the two holes with the eyelid thingies line up with the eyeballs again.

Decent bit of design I think.

I might be completely off the mark … but my guess is … you are looking at the reflection of your eye so you are focussing on a fixed point … if you move your head left or right and keep looking at that fixed point … your eyes will seemingly rotate within your head. Similarly - tilting your head back with your eyes focussed on the fixed point of the reflection - your eyes roll forward - giving the illusion of your eyelids closing - but really - it’s just your pupils are looking out of the bottom bit of your eye socket? instead of the middle.

If - with your head now tilted upwards - you stop focussing on the reflection of your eyes and look straight ahead (i.e. at the ceiling) - your eyelids don’t move … ergo … eyelids weren’t responding to gravity.

(I think)

I think Mr C has it as that was going to be my explanation. I don’t think gravity has anything to do with it. (Perhaps the specific gravity of the alcohol you consumed has more to do with your results?)

or maybe he is a life sized kids doll, you know the type that when you lay them down the eyes close.Does this happen to you button?

or maybe its the sight of you drunk jus makes ur eyes wanna close lol :stuck_out_tongue:
