Who has been made redundant?

Sorry to hear this m8. Its so bad out there, can’t believe its got like this.

My partner, Dave passed his car test December 3rd 2008 and then on the 4th was lucky to escape redundancy…they laid off 12 people.

My job is pretty secure though.

One of my m8s posted a thread on another bike forum from some of the news papers and the BBC. Apparently the people in the know reckon we’ll all kick off this summer and there’ll be riots on the streets. They believe with the crisis and people losing their jobs and watching lower paid immigrants getting work, the Country will implode. Somehow, I can see that happening.

Me, my dad, and several of my mates.

There are jobs out there though, don’t worry

Sorry to hear about all of you out of work. Good luck

I lost my job at the start of last November. Been very slow, last week things have started to pick up a bit. I know so many people in different industries who have lost there job.

Its given me time to evaluate what is important in life and paint up some track fairings

I was made redundant on December 19th, and my 'arl fella is just a matter of time away from it. Luckily his company realise that he is only a matter of months away from his retirement so they have him doing some other projects in the mean time, but its affected so many people I know its frightening.

I was very fortunate, as I was consulting when i was made redundant and had been with the same client for 4 years. They decided to take me on board as a full time member of staff from January 12th… but again, I was thanking my stars that I was in this position as my partner is currently doing her masters degree and we rely on me for the money in the house at the mo.

From my perspective, this is the first “real” downturn I’ve seen. I was working during the ‘dot com’ bust and the company i was working for asked people to take 6 months off with half pay or to take redundancy, but the numbers were small, whereas this time around, its frightening, everyone i know is concerned for their job. :crying:

All the best to everyone who is out there job hunting.

Zine, I feel for you & I hope it all turns out ok. My firm has just made 21 people redundant, with another 10 that have either been sacked or retired. These are worrying times. I’ve been working as a black cab controller since march 1990 & they are going to have another review at the end of march. Squeaky bum time for me. But, I hope you’ll come out of this ok.

Wow, tbh I don’t think I realised things are so bad until I read a thread like this. So many people getting made redundant :frowning:

What are the payoffs like? You get 3 months wages or something?

I’m lucky in that I *think * my job’s fairly safe. Good luck to everyone job hunting over the next few months.

It’s happening here in Spain too…lots of people going back to the UK due to losing work . I can’t quite work out why as it’s cheaper to live here in most respects…

I have heard it said that it is because they will get more “benefits” in the UK ,as the Spanish system is not quite so generous apparently… If this is the case I think it’s wrong that they should live here and take all the benefits this country has to offer then run home to the UK to claim more when it gets tight here.

If you live in , and contribute to, a country then you are entitled to take what help is offered but border hopping to claim “because we can” shouldn’t be allowed in my opinion.

Well I can see you’ve now got your priorities in order!

That’s not a bad idea… tried to get some local work delivering stock to shops but even that is currently being cut back as people shop less and require less rubbish and the existing drops on the runs are being distributed to less drivers doing them.

I’ll probably get ADR to see if that helps my prospects, if that still doesn’t get me anywhere I have thought about doing the 3.5 year “Two-wheeled vehicle mechanic (powered vehicles)” school/apprenticeship route, heading towards the Master of Two-Wheelers

People will always want to drive, and they’ll always want to ride bikes… and need them fixed + serviced by decent, honest people!

Ha, I wish … as I have been with the company less than 2 years (only just), so I get a weeks pay!

i was bit lucky in that respect, i had been a my company for nearly 13 years…i got a decent payout, still need to find some work, got few ideas but neeed motivation!!

We should go for a ‘motivational ride’ :hehe:

I’ve got my resume sorted and about to email through to all the agencies, including Dubai.

I was just about to suggest looking abroad Zine, i have had lots of mates that work in surveying all head out to the Middle East for work as the property market here is in such dire straights… Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Doha… they are still throwing up buildings for fun out there.

I rely on architects and designers for most of my work (supplying contemporary furniture and lighting to commercial and residential projects), so it is really alarming to see all you guys losing your jobs. I’ve had lots of clients being made redundant and am starting to feel the bite now too.

Hope something comes up for you mate, it is a really tough place to be. I jacked in the architecture after my BA, so i would no doubt be in the same position as you now if i had gone on to qualify.

All the best.

I got the heave hoe last June due to the oil price. Was working for a airline at the time, and $150 a barrel was crippling. That said I did get a nice package, and did get another job in September. In fact my company is recruting. If you are in IT have a look:

Sorry to hear that, no-body needs stuff like this happening to them. Good luck with finding work.
