not had work for 2 weeks (truck driver) from agency, signed on with loads and went round all the firms in luton,bedford,milton keynes even northampton nobody recruiting at moment, will go out later n head south tryherts n north london gotta be summat somewhere 
nowt wrong with a big pension, and he didnt lordy! up this country, if you really believe what these idiots in government think then I would be very suprised…this country was well fooked before RBS screwed things up and well before the idiots in America started the sub prime boom so as to sell more houses…
I was talking to a mate the other day and both agreed that working for a government agency is lower paid but redundancy isn’t to easy.
From what I can see, almost everybody’s got the axe hanging over them to one extent or another. Be it no pay rise through to the chop.
My heartfelt sympothys go out to all that have had such a body blow. Exept the nuggets that screw up then get a massive pay off/pension. Not thinking of any sector in perticular.
LOL! I knew someone that knew the son of that particlaur person… and he spent some off that pay off for his particlaur son wedding… nice to know where govement money is going towards…for sending and lossing a f*****g CD in the post…Really sorry to hear about the job loss… i spoke to a frined this week that probably getting the same news, and is in the same line of work… but maybe see it as an opptunity for something else…

How many architects have we got here? I imagine architects swanning around in Armani suits and Porsches, not in leathers and bikes. Must change my perception now, which is a bugger as I like my prejudices.
I’m in a slightly different position, as I’m off sick and the odds are that I’ll lose my job soon. The good news is that I can still ride bikes and I’ve got plenty of time to do so. The bad news is that I’m not really up to doing much and my ex-wife keeps hassling me to do things for her (she doesn’t understand I want to do things to her not for her… :Whistling: .).

Feel your pain buddy, my architect buddy in N16 just wrote me he’s getting laid off in 2 weeks as well. And he’s no fool, he’s got a Ph.D. in architecture!

Now, I know I’m probably going to get myself into hot water but how come that whenever I ride down the Autobahn and I look at the right hand lane, all I see is trucks with the licence plates:

Oh yeah, those fellas work for 800 euros a month, and get their diesel in Eastern Europe before driving all over Western Europe all week doing the jobs we used to do. Now don’t get me wrong, if I was in their shoes I’d do the same. But as a Western European truck driver, the situation sucks. What am I supposed to do, go to Warsaw to get work?
Go to any motorway services, you’ll hardly find any German, British, Belgian, French lorries anymore. They are all from these low wage countries. Nice fellas mostly, I’ve had a road side fry up with a Romanian chap in Vittel once when my dispatchers parked me up there for the weekend, but still you have to admit the situation stinks.
Instead, I might go back to school and learn another trade if this economic slump lasts much longer.

My mrs just got made redundant (Private Healthcare Industry).
The place I work at, (New Media Industry), laid off 10 people just before Xmas. I’ve hardly had any scheduled work since Jan so I reckon I might be going in the next wave :ermm:
Went to a meeting at a major broadsheet newspaper the other day and couldn’t believe how empty their offices were from the last time I was there. Turns out they laid off a third of staff just before xmas as well!
Seems to be hitting every industry.
PM sent … Hopefully there will be light at the end of the tunnel?
This company had 130+, now left with 70 … We had offices in Madrid and Tokyo which have since closed.
No one is safe, so it seems.

i was made redundant 3 years ago in the print trade,we were making money ,they had a good offer for the site for redevelopment ,123 people lost there jobs.i was lucky and found a job within two weeks.iv been on sick for 7 months,{no fault bike accident} and got a letter this week asking for 6 voluntary redundancy.my boss rung and said i will be ok,still bit worried .
I know … almost 50% of London office, and closers of others.

With you on this one feller…been going downhill our industry since mid/late 80’s when they opened up the borders and everyone thought “lets do europe” I stopped doing Europe years ago fed up kipping in truck, but now cant even get work here, looking into retraining as well driving instructor or summat, people always wanna drive
