I’d recommend the SV (biased) but pointy because FI

If your vehicle meets the required Euro emission

standard, it will be compliant with ULEZ.

    The ULEZ standard is:
  • Euro 3 for motorcycles
  • Euro 4 for petrol cars, vans and minibuses
  • Euro 6 for diesel cars, vans and minibuses
  • Euro VI for lorries, buses and coaches

CBF500 does well enough… mine is cracking on nicely. I’ve done over 20K on it and it is cheap as chips to run.
BMW F650GS single - 60+ mpg, dual carriageway capable, private sales turn up in budget, and the 2004 on ones are Euro-3 compliant so can be taken into the ULEZ.  I'm with the person who said get a contribution from the OH as it's your commute --- Stuart Fordyce
I doubt very much you will get one in the budget mentioned
I just got a f800st for £2100 and it’s loaded with many BMW options
So far I’ve got 240 miles on a tank (16) the fuel light came on 20 miles from home so I’ll see how many litres it equates to tomorrow
Would I recommend it as a winter hack
God no the spares can be expensive and they are heavy bikes.
The engine feels like a bag of bolts
I wanted a sv650 post 2007 but couldn’t find a decent one at the time
As it only a temporary measure until I get the gsxr bag I’m not to fussed about the negative bits
The bike is still a decent ride
And if things work out I’ll pass it onto my son when I’ve finished with it

Wise
I got mine in that budget! OP doesn't say if his budget includes a trade in or not as well.

I am selling this if interests you

Just to confirm, the ULEZ doesn’t start until September 2020, and bikes that are older than 13 years old at that time will be charged.

Euro 3 was phased in from 2005 through 2006 into 2007 by which time it became compulsory on all new bikes.

So, according to the website link mentioned above, any bike made before 1st July 2007 will be liable to the charge unless it was already Euro 3 compliant - i.e. built to the new standard in 2005, 2006 or early 2007.

Of course, new bikes this year will now be having to meet Euro 4…

It matters not when the mo’cycle was manufactured or first registered, if its Euro 3 compliant it will not be liable to the ULEZ charge.

There are also a number of discounts and exemptions available for residents, disabled people, historic vehicles, specialist vehicles and showmen. Read more here https://tfl.gov.uk/modes/driving/ultra-low-emission-zone/complying-with-ulez#on-this-page-2

Showmen? Does that mean you have to wheelie everywhere within the zone to be exempt?

I think its a circus thing

How do you claim to be in the circus?

I work with a few clowns, does that count?

“Work”

OK. We all chip in to build a Wall of Death in Nivag’s back garden, he can work a ticket booth in his front porch. Sorted.

We chip in?

I thought in the new world order it’s the Mexicans responsibility to pay for walls to be built?

How many Mexicans have you met in London? Personally I've only met one...

I’ve heard other people mention it as a thing, I only use the term for comic value.

I only say it 'cus I'm secretly jealous :)

Trust me, nothing to be jealous of. It’s all smoke and mirrors. Well that’s what I see when practicing rolling burnouts
