gixxer is a cracking road bike so too the R1…but they are soooooooo common. Red R1 is great handles beutifully and wont scare you…its in my humble opinion the right 1000 to go for first…I did and did not regret it…have ridden all the others and prefer the R1 for almost everything…
and as I said you really wont notice the difference between 05/06 so go for the cheaper one
Totally agree…The R1 is the best first litre bike in my opinion…Can be sedate if you want it to be and then mental when you choose too…Just pull the throttle back and the revs rapidly rise along with a torrent of pull. It’s not too keen at very low revs but you can change the gearing to help in this area and get the fuel injection custom mapped at a reputable dyno house. The great thing about the R1 is that it has killer handling, fantastic linear power delivery (like a Honda but more powerful) and great looks. In my opinion, no other Japanese litre bike on the market today can tick all those boxes.
Have a chat with Bikerboy on here, he bought an 04 model I think because it was significantly cheaper but basically the same as the 05, something like that.
I went from a ducati 749 to a 05 R1, It is amazing to ride. There are times that I wish i had bought an older model so it wasnt so perfect and easy to ride but i am happy:) I allways wanted a custom cruiser and ‘almost’ swapped it for one, I am sooooo glad I didnt because it is always fun to ride on my R1. I plan to wait until the money comes in and buy my custom and have both. As for the R1 being so common, you can easily modify it to make it unique. My one is covered in carbon fibre with a one of tail end made from the stuf. Not everyones taste but I love it. This is an old pic, it now has black race rear sets with race shift which i really prefer 1 up 5 down, and few other bits. I also have Renthal sprockets on it, I went 1 tooth down on the front and 2 teeth up on the rear sprocket, the exceleration is awesome!
Well, I bought a Black 2006 R1 … I get it next weekend :w00t:
I have already ordered Pipes, PCIII, Pazzo levers, Corbin Seat, Racing Screen, and loads of other goodies.
Might buy the In tech system from Harris, at the motorshow!
GoooOOOOOooooD choice…
Ive recently upgraded from the 2005 to the 2007 model… And the difference is huge! Its an animal and often catches me out!(I love it!!!). Its great looking has the slipper clutch and you’ll still have a bit of warrenty left!
Get some R&G mushrooms as soon as and I would recommend a steering damper…
