Which Alarm???

After nearly a year on my 125 I am soon going to be in the market for something a bit bigger.

Unfortunately, I don’t have the luxury of a garage and live in one of the less desirable parts of Sunny London.

I know having an alarm is no guarantee that my new ride won’t get nicked, but i’m willing to pay a bit for that extra peace of mind, especially after reading on the forum about how many members bikes get nicked.

The question is: Which one and how much should I pay??? My local Suzuki dealer recommended a Datatool and Yamaha recommnded a Meta? I’m sure that was based on commission.

Any advice welcome.

Hi Mate…get some replys and then come back to me…I got one of the devices you mentioned (BRAND NEW AND BOXED) and when you have made your choice maybe we can do a deal.

Cheers mate.

I know there are a few alarm wizzes on the forum. Hopefully this will mean I won’t get ripped off by a dealer.

well…lets just say that I have a top spec item and bought it for my last bike before I “chucked it” I got the bike replaced and the new one had the thing fitted, hence I got the spare.

The deal is you take it for what I payed which was £120…and thats it mate…

I think most of those who’ve had a bike nicked reckon an alarm to be mostly a waste of time.

Get an Almax chain instead. Sends bolt croppers packing. Far more effective than any alarm will ever be. And we get an LB discount too.

Check it http://londonbikers.com/deals/almax.aspx

Not trying to interfere with a sale or anything Barro I found out as my 2004 Yamaha R6 got stolen that Theives don’t care about Alarms, if they want something an alarm won’t matter unless your 50 yards from your bike constantly.

I’m sure a Tracker would be the best option, as they ring you the minute your bike moves without the key in the ignition and if you don;t know about it the police will be rung and a special ID number will be given to them from Tracker to be put onto GPS and follow where ever your bike is going. Worst bit about it is that if the theives know theres a Tracker on it, they will try to rip it out ASAP. However, its a better option to getting your bike back then to have an alarm going off in the back of a van and then them ripping it out anyway.

The Almax Chain is also quite good but I’m quite lazy and don’t really like putting a chain on every time you get off it.

Rik, nice one on the move to a bigger bike! Firstly, your primary security device should be something which imobilises the bike effectively, and we’ve done a lot of research into this and the only chain/lock worth spending a penny on is the Almax one. These babies are thick and cannot be bolt-cropped, period.

We’ve negotiated a discount for all members as well with them:

Secondly, I would PM CharlyB600F as he is the community Alarm fitter and will do you proud, if only for advice.

All the best with getting the big bike. Let us know how you get on.

Hi mate, I agree that alarms are not really much of a deterrant. If you save on the insurance and can get one cheap, then fair enough.

Otherwise a big chain and large stationary object would be better.

But you’d prob sleep better at night with an alarm fitted, so that’s a cool enough reason.

Nice one for the advice.

I’ve already got my Almax chain sorted.

Like I said, I just want the peace of mind of knowing that no f****r was gonna tamper with my bike or try and sit on it and pretend they were riding (got a school near me with little s**ts who sneak into my drive to have a fag.) Also, I can see my bike from my bedroom, so if the alarm was to go off i’d be down in a shot, with a suitable implement to hand.

you want one then ?..latest meta ?..boxed and bagged ?
