shut up and buy a scooter:D:D:w00t:
Remember cars pull off slower as majority of people sit in neatural where bikers would sit in gear ready to fly off.
in the ca,r i wait for green.
on the bike, i wait for no man.
:hehe: I’m beginning to wonder if any of you guys actually ride in London…where the lights change from amber to green in seconds. It’s not as if you’re going to be sat there waiting all afternoon for them to change is it. What’s the difference anyway you’ll be at the next set of lights in two seconds flat anyways. More often than not I’ll stay in neutral until the lights turn to amber, knock it into gear and away as they’re changing green (ok maybe half a second before). I think the OP was more moaning about the mainly scooterists who open the throttle the instant the light goes amber- it’s just pointless…![]()
In my van i go on amber but as it is so slow it is green before it actually moves.
There are places you can move away on amber, with a good look for red light jumpers and places where you have to be sooooo careful. In Southall, many drivers consider red lights to be purely decorative objects. Even when your light has been green for a few seconds, someone might jump their red light.
You are on the London bikers forum in town everyone is in a hurry and as said above if you wait for a green light you will get nudged or hooted at. Maybe someone needs to retire to the countryside.
I don’t abide by every rule in the highway code just the ones that stop me from being mowed down by an in-attentive cager speeding through the amber/red lights and creaming me all over the road. If I thought the scooter/bikes had had a good look to see if anything was jumping the lights I would not have a problem, but they go wide open with the throttle the moment the light changes after starring at just the light for the last 30 seconds, so have no idea what may be about to splatter them all over the road. I have seen it and its not pretty.
Yes I’m an old age pensioner who needs to live in the countryside but I would rather be that than a new pattern all over the road. I sit in neutral at red lights, as they change I knock it down and set off as the lights go green, I have never been hooted or nudged by anything on four wheels but have been clipped a number of times by people on two.

:D:D:D
green GO
amber GO
red JUST A FEW MORE
:D:P:D
I like to be well away from people approaching from behind - not just in biking!
(Especially if Jewell is at the lights - he’d try bumming you from 50 paces)
Amber = GO!
@richm
What do you ride and where do you ride to and from, I’ll give you smile behind my tinted visor as I ‘scream’ past you!
I sit in neutral at lights, but I know the light patterns (as I’m sure most people do) of my regular routes so I just knock it into first a couple of seconds before amber. Even if I’m still in neutral when the lights go amber, I’m still into first and away before it’s green anyway…only takes half a second to be moving away.
Red “STOP”
Green “GO”
Yellow “GO VERY FAST”
come on people stop being mean to him, he is highlighting good points, that all of you probably know and do. i don’t, i do exactly what he described in his recent post, which is making me think.
can’t be wasting half a second ;)![]()
When I was despatching it was
GREEN = GO
AMBER = GO
RED = BE CAREFULL
i think i’m in gear when THE OTHER traffic light turns amber going on red…
on my amber i’ve already left, keeping an eye on people jumping red lights obviously
red man == in gear
True, I could shave 4 or 5 seconds off my journey home! ![]()
