What's under YOUR seat?

So, I’ve recently finished “stocking” the under-seat area of my GSXF the way I want it. Before this bike I had a scooter, and got used to carrying a lot of stuff “just in case” - obviously I’ve had to cut that down somewhat :-). However there is actually quite a lot of storage space under the seat (even after I’ve fitted an alarm and hidden it all under there), so I’ve managed to fit quite a number of things.

People sometimes say “why do you need all that stuff” - well, it’s come in useful a few times, although mostly for other bikers. I tend to stop when I see a biker in trouble - when I rode the maxi-scoot, I had a serious toolkit under there, and I had three episodes where my tools plus someone else’s knowledge and skill have fixed someone else’s bike at the roadside. Now I have less, but probably enough to be useful if I break down or someone else does.

So without further ado, here is my list:

  • Suzuki factory tool kit
  • My own collection of tools (including adjustable spanner, knife, pliers, screwdrivers)
  • A small digital multimeter (DMM) including voltmeter, ammeter, continuity tester
  • Insulation tape, cable ties, string, couple of spare bungees
  • Puncture repair kit plus extra spare CO2 canisters
  • Folded plastic carrier bags (for emergency waterproofing)
  • A few Click-to-Heat pads
  • V Sponge for helmet cleaning
  • A small can of chain lube

Ok, so it needed quite a bit of organising to fit the lot in the way I wanted to, but I’m pretty happy with it. In addition, at all times I carry a 2M Almax III chain with Squire padlock (wrapped around the rear and bungeed in place), and a waterproof oversuit and thin jumper folded together in a plastic bag, held on with a luggage net on the passenger seat. Anything more than that needed (e.g. when traveling for work), I put on the tank bag and/or the Givi E45. Can you tell I got used to having the space on a scooter?

So - what’s under your seat?

A pair of waterproof over-trousers, a swiss army knife, and a spare packet of rizzlas. I felt quite well prepared until now.

bloody hell mate. u preparing for the end of the world!

Quick question Simon… How the fu*k do you get all that under the seat!!!

jesus… that’s so much stuff…

but being told you carry too much by Jaime really takes the piss

I’ve got a disc lock, swiss army knife, 2-3 cable ties and puncture repair kit (though missing the canisters at the moment)

Oh yeah and the straps for my Kriega for when I’m going to work/ training

Bl00dy hell Simon…:w00t:where do you commute to?? Dakar?

I only carry loads on a camping trip otherwise my underseat is filled with air :hehe:

Spare clutch cable
My own set of tools (stock tools are always shite)
spare bulbs
spare fuses
few small nuts and bolts
puncture kit
air pump
bit of rope
spare contact lenses
emergency 20

all have come in handy at some point

I’ll show you some day - it’s actually quite easy, there’s loads of room there if you look for it

The KTM has akrapovics and a small community of gremlims .

Oooh, an emergency 20 is a great idea, thanks. I once jumped on the bike and rode in a random direction because it was a nice day, I was 70 miles away from home before I realised I didn’t have my wallet or any cash with me! Ended up visiting a friend who was 40 miles in the wrong direction, to borrow some money for petrol to get home

As for bulbs and fuses, that’s also a good call, I’ll do that too.

All these tools is very good … It the knowing where to apply them is often the difficult question

honda tool kit
2 side stand support plates
waterproof trousers
2 straps (for holding petrol can for motopup he he )

scottoiler

I know someone from Scotland who likes to be prepared. In the inner fairing he has made holes so as to fit car glove boxes so things can be stored in them, and inside the belly pan is the electric tyre inflator and tubing to reach both wheels.

Me, I just have the standard tools needed to get the most common bolts or screws undone. If I know a bike has a regular issue then I might store extra fix it measures. On my learner bike, the RD250, this used to be a pair of spark plugs and kit kat tinfoil to fix blown fuses lol.

I always took a graphite pencil with me for my Yamaha 2-stroke . The magic pencil was the only way to start it sometimes
