just got my claim money through for an accident 2yrs ago, want a 1000, so looking at anything made in 2005, any advice or things to look out for would be appreciated. :O)

had a 748R 2 years ago, dont like the v-twin power, great out of corners but found it lacking top end punch.
Of the 2005 models of these bikes, the Honda was completely outclassed, the R1 was starting to show its age but was/is still a very good road bike, the ZX10 appealed to the “nutters” among us and was excellent on track but a bit frisky on the road at times. The Gix was a step forward in terms of handling, power and power delivery at the time, and came out on top in just about every comparison that included it.
I had a K5 1000 for a while, but I’m back on a 750 now and I honestly think that it it twice the bike that the 1000 was. I suppose every one should own a modern litre bike at some point though, they are just unbelievable in a straight line.
Get down to a few dealers in the countryside next to a nice twisty section of road and try them all.
Mags said the Gixxer 1000 was the best bike for 2005 out of that lot, but would you really give them sole responsibility for influencing your buying decision?
Go test 'em, but I’d get a few dealers on the list to ensure you have the best chance of testing the bikes you’re interested in.

PS. Try maybe to test a 2006 CBR 1000 if you can as that was voted best road bike by some of the UK press. Use that as a comparisson with the others.
With total bias, of course it’s the K5 thou. It’s so versatile and stupid fast.
how about this, its a k6, not sure about what they are like compared to the k5, guy wants 6k for it, which isn’t bad i suppose + its got a racefit growler :w00t:
K5 and K6 are identical except for some of the colours. £6k sounds a bit high, how many miles has it done?
5k miles, had a look on biketrader, and most were around that mark.
Seeing as a few peeps see the K7/8 as inferior, I think that’s what’s keeping the price of K5 / 6 buoyant.
Think 6k is about right but try and haggle down to just under.
Say you can barely afford the insurance :laugh:
5k is pretty low mileage for these. If it has a PC and has had the Racefit setup on a dyno, it could be a good buy.
+1 on what Afro says about some people thinking the K5/6 is a better bike.

K5 gixer all day long. You will not ride a more complete litre sports bike of its time.

ZX10R won Masterbike in 05 which I didn’t know…Can’t be that unruly a machine to have confidence in then (like some press would say).
RSV 1000 R Factory won in 06.
Might have to test the RSVR again and try an 04/05 ZX10R to see what the fuss is about

Chunks…i have owned a tricked up TLS and a very tricked up TLR…i love twins…if only Powerpuffgirl had a twin sister!!! …if you ever thought about joining the Darkside then a 04/5 10R is all a TL rider could wish for “attitude” just like a big ol TL!!!
