Just converted to Firefox and I can’t see any real advantage. What’s the hype all about?
Have a look here, Matt: http://www.mozilla.com/firefox/
Tabbed browsing! You just open a new tab (ctrl+T), instead of a new applications.
It’s free and constantly being developed, so you can download free upgrades.
It’s better for blocking/allowing pop-ups.
Bookmarks apparently are better too, not that I use them that much. Must see what the fuss is about.
And, one for Cezar:
It’s invisable to radar and the weapons system is thought activated.
You have to think in Russian though!
Not all the different from Safari TBH.
two simple words : Tabbed Browsing !
Rough translation . . .
You cant pick up nasty trojans etc just from viewing dodgy [accidentally viewed p*rn] webpages like you do with Internet Explorer . . . I think
Also, checkout sage rss feeds a really nice firefox plugin
Lee, Safari already does that.
Trojans hey. Giddy up
Well I’ve never really noticed a difference either. Tabbed browsing just doesn’t wax my tracks TBH.
But I do like the name, and it sounds like a cool thing to do, so Firefox it is. And it does Mach5 or summat.

It’s neutral tech, it just works, as opposed to other crap that infects your computer, slows you down and crashes. The new Internet Explorer 7 is a (poor) copy of Firefox, it’s laughable, I don’t know what Microsoft were thinking! Safari is a well developed browser, unlike IE, so the difference isn’t as pronounced, but Mozilla were doing all the good things years before Microsoft or Apple even knew what a good browser was.
Mozilla are dedicated to developing a first-class browser, unlike Apple or Microsoft, so will be making more innovations, and responding to known issues quicker. It won’t change your world, but it makes the web a nicer place to come to
Sorry, I’m not a techie when it comes to pooters, so would like to know what IS wrong with I.E? I’ve always used it (ever since I started using the net), I’ve never knowingly had any probs with it and so have never really felt the need to use anything else. What makes I.E so bad then??
I.E is old, like dinosaur old. It hasn’t been worked on for about five years, which is an ice-age in computing terms. The only updates that get released for it are to patch some new hack that people have conjoured up. It lets viruses, worms and spyware through to your computer. Spyware can get so bad that your computer comes to a complete stand-still and you get bombarded with annoying toolbars, popup windows, pop-unders, the list goes on, it can become a nightmare.
Firefox keeps it simple, it’s immune to any of the previously mentioned crap and brings new things to the browsing experience which make it much simpler and quicker to get what you want out of your browsing time, mainly;
- Tabbed Browsing (this cannot be underestimated how cool it is)
- Inline search, i.e. just type what you’re looking for on the page and it’ll find it.
- Search Box with plugs, so you can always have a little search box on screen to find something in IMDB, WikiPedia, Amazon, and soon to be LB.
- Live Bookmarks, this is basically RSS feeds brought to your toolbar. You can always see what’s new at a website with these.
- Plugins, hundreds of them, to do anything you want!
- Themes, to customise the look of the browser.
Mainly though, people like it because it’s not made by Microsoft, it works and is cool. Get chic, get Firefox
Thanks for taking the time to tap-out that reply Jay. It sounds good, but I’m afraid that it seems internet explorer kicks the butt of firefox… in a googlefight!
I downloaded it a few weeks ago but haven’t installed it yet…I’ll have to get it a go.
been using firefox for about a year, before with IE when I ran an adaware scan it would pick up 50 - 80 trackers now with firefox its down to 3-5! and those are probably with sites that only work with IE.there are other browsers ,such as opera but to be honest I’ve been happy with firefox, its not a lifechanging issue but then its not a pain in the ass either.
PS did I mention tabbed browsing ?
Been using firefox for a while now - tabbed browsing is ace… means i can keep sites like LB, and the like open discretely at work
I’ve been using Firefox for so long I can’t remember when I last used IE…
It does have it’s little quirks though and the one I hate is that on most forums, if you click on an emoticon, it puts at the end of the page…
However, tabbed browsing and bookmark management is so good, lack of pop ups and the RSS plug in are a couple of other really good positives too.
I’ve banned my Mrs from using IE on my PC, it’s Firefox or no web…
.
I cant belive that no one has put that you can que up downloads IE only does 2-3 at any time where firefox can download upto 4 files and que up as many as you like and go contiune the download at a later stage if you have to restart your pc its also more secure than IE
ITS JUST A LOT BETTER
so how do I get this plane that clint stole from the ruskies then?
No idea what you’re talking about there, Gorgeous Guy, but I’m assuming you want to know where to download Firefox.
