What would you find helpful in !!!!

Hi guys I’m thinking of starting up a mobile bike servicing service.

So I thought I would pick your brains

We could service your bike at your home/work or at our workshop after you finish work in evenings and weekends ect save you taking time off work to get this done. What other services would you find helpful

Other things we could offer are
Powder coating service
Aftermarket parts supply and fit
Tyres

Thanks guys

I have always thought a health check would be a really good thing to offer people that are like me, either too lazy, too busy or just can’t be bothered to get their Haynes manual out and get their hands dirty.

I want to know my brakes are good, that my tyres are good, that the clutch is working ok, that the suspension is up to scratch, that the gears are all working well.

These are things where I don’t really know they are a problem til they break down completely or get to the point where they are really bad…whereas a professional might spot a problem much earlier.

This would be esp good at the start of the biking season, march/april where the bikes are coming out from storage and it would be nice to have them checked over before looning around country lanes.

Kaos

“…the start of the biking season, march/april…”

Bloody amateurs. I didn’t know there was a “bike season”. If there is, speaking as a one time grease monkey, a pre winter service check might be good, though you’ll have to sell that to lots of people. What needed doing would depend on the bike but checking/waterproofing electrics, changing oils, checking coolants and all that boring stuff we hate to do might be good.

There might be a market in laying up bikes for the winter wimps.

It’s a great idea and I think the way forward is just being there and letting people know you are there is the answer.

What follows after that should come from demand.

Someone said to me when I mentioned putting the Gixer away for winter…“Real bikers ride through winter”…to which I could only reply…“proper bikers have two bikes”

The biking season for me is hooning around on country lanes. I don’t really want to do that in Winter, though I know it is possible, the risk is much higher and therefore the activity is less fun.

I don’t need oil and coolants done necessarily, as they are part of the service. What generally is not a part of your service is letting you know what might need looking at in 3 months, whether the clutch is on the way out, etc etc the things that we might not spot as riders but a mechanic might think is obvious.

Only an idea though.

And a good one mate all ideas welcome

Hope this helps :

So I have a winter and summer bike ( feel free to slate away ! )

In the last couple of weeks for winter prep , I have had the CBF checked , fluids etc and battery heath , tyres and sparks , a interim service basically. Also made sure the electrics to the heated grips all sorted and working. Basically making sure its working and ready to go for the winter. I also had it treated with ACF50.

The gix is also going to be ACF50’d then put away in storage on the Acumen ready for thise ocassional nice days or the start of the better weather.

Had the work done at a main dealer this time as I had some alarm fob issues , but ordinarily would have sourced the work elsewhere.

Would def consider someone who would come to me and charge a reasonable rate.

Good luck if you do decide to go for it , would throw some work your way !

not having a pop btw but this always annoys me

hmmm so do you not check your levels at least weekly ?

i know most vehicles are fitted with warning lights and guages But the actual design and function of these devices are a last moment warning … The oil light shown on dash is not a low oil level light But a low Pressure light that when illuminated means your engine is starving of oil … and yes this can be brought on by a low oil level and when this shows it has already started to cause engine damage … a brief visual check of oil level at least reduces the risk of this …

Same as Water level … a full system can drain in minutes if the leak is severe and a good few minutes sat in traffic will soon overheat an engine with no water … or a good blast where the guage is not on your visual importance …

All this can be reduced by a good old visual check …

A service is just that it is not a guarantee that all the levels are correct within the service intervals …

basic maintainance is all needed …

Petrol

Oil

Water

Electrics

Rubber

so in essence non checking levels means that just because last service your headlight worked it does not need attetion till next service or your tyres will remain within legal limits

I know Tim you are absolutely right, I barely remember to test the brakes half the time before I ride the bike.

A terrible attitude that I think stems from riding the remnants of old bikes that were stored in a back garden for two years before I bought them for £20.

You ran them into the ground and then bought another one.

Bothering to service them only made them die earlier, since half the time it was the dirt, grime and grease that was holding them together.

Not a recommendation to do that, just saying it is probably where my lack of thought and care stem from.
