Looking at one this evening, what should I be looking for ? Any major problems or issues to watch out for ?
I’ll obviously not be too worried if the throttle doesn’t go all the way round as I never use it all anyway but are there any known issues, for example gearbox or clutch problems ?
What’s the easiest way to tell if the frame and forks are straight, stand the bike up and look down the length of it ?
I had no problems with mine Steve and it had 10,000 miles on it when sold.
Firstly I’d give the bike a general look all over, you can soon see if it’s been looked after. Check tyres for wear, chain sprocket wear, a close visual inspection all over the bike, go with a friend so you can check head races, swing arm bushes etc plus moral support when haggling.
Any scuffs or signs of crash damage, smooth action from suspension. Check service history.
You should be able to get a good idea if the bike is straight by having a test ride on a flat road. The bike will try to veer to one side if you barely grip the bars.
Give the engine and good thrash it should rev right through the range cleanly and obviously with no rattles.
It’s a very good sports bike, easier to ride and more user friendly than a zx6r for most riders IMO.
There again I’ve sold mine because the new CBR 600rr is a more involving ride (for me personally), so precise and nimble in the turns. You really feel that you’re getting the most out of the bike:cool:
Thanks B, it’s a track bike so not as tidy as a road bike but it rode in a straight line and all the major stuff looked OK. The engine pulled well and sounded just like it should so I think it’s fundamentally sound, if tatty.
I fancied the 750 because I thought on track a more relaxed ride would help me focus on lines and getting my position correct, got some work to do there I do like my ZX6R but it’s my road bike and I need something I’ll not be afraid to come off and see scuffing down the track, also, finding a straight 600 isn’t easy, have seen some right rotten bikes recently.
