hello all you lovely people. ive been riding a yamaha ybr custom for a year now and in a few short weeks shall be undertaking the first few steps to aquire my “big boy license” im pretty set on doing the A test in harlow as there are a couple of good test centres, one being where i passed my CBT. but whats bothering me is what bike is next? ive spent days oggling the yamaha xv/s and the honda vt, kawasaki vn or suzuki vz. ive even stumbled on a few harley sportsters. i cant get along with the idea of a sportsbike, they dont excite me, it has to be a custom styled bike. could anyone recommend or give any of their own experiences arguing for or against? i still have plenty of time, i just have a hard time deciding.
I would start from a passing your licence, you would be surprised how many people who were sure they will, did not pass.
This gives you opportunity to have a test ride on the bike. (even if you not buying new one you can test ride similar model at the garage).
About bike, first look at the pictures, or bikes on the street, think what you like, then look is this what you like will fits what you need bike for, and base on that you will have few bikes to choose from. Then ask some people which one of these bikes they will suggest to buy or not to buy and why.

ps. or sod it like me and buy what you in love and in your favourite colour
what kind of riding are you doing? if its mainly fun in the sun then a cruiser will cut it, but if you plan some long trips you might want to re consider as they will get a bit uncomfy.
In the end though bud, riding bikes is emotive, and you should buy whatever puts a smile on yer face.
Only thing I know about any of the bikes you listed is that the Sportster is very prone to corrosion and you will spend as long cleaning it as riding it if you want to keep it looking half decent.
Depending on your budget, you could look at a Ducati Diavel? Pricey but sitting on one feels like a cruiser… but I’m told it drives a lot better. Plus the termis on it would make it sound awesome…
Alternatively why not try something like a GS or a Varadero or TDM?
Personally it’s the one type of bike I could never get along with so my opinions may reflect the fact I ‘don’t get them’…
