what machine to get next

Hi.

just passed my A2 test and although I wanted to stick with the Aprilia Sportcity 125 for another year I am tempted by the idea of getting more bhp under my saddle so started looking around.

Anyone has any suggestions for a nice, sporty scooter which is legal with an A2 licence? (max 33bhp/25kw) Or has anyone thought of getting a bigger maxi scooter and restricting it (like a GP800) ?

No vespas please

Thanks everyone.

Anyone?

I know nothing about scooters but there are a fair few scooter riders here who should be able to give you some good advice. You might trying pm-ing Giuliano, johnp and jimc for starters.

Sorry I can’t be of more help. Good luck with your choice, and have fun choosing

Depends what your priorities are.

It it’s speed alone, you’ll be wanting a 400cc or a restricted 500+. The Xevo 400 is a good bet if you want maxi convenience and practicality. If you want sporty looks, get a Nexus 500 restricted.

If you aren’t too fussed about going flat out, 250 class machines are a good bet. Around town the Honda Sh300 is a blast, but has little storage and is not comfortable for long runs. The Nexus and Xevo are available in 250/300 size too. My personal choice is the Peugeot Satelis 250 executive. Same size as the Xevo and has much the same qualities, but comes with ABS and an ABUS chain that locks from inside the boot. Also has a rather cool remote control fob that raises the boot for you automatically.

As a rough guide, a 250/300 bike will do an indicated 90mph, a 400 will indicate 95, and a 500 will show you 100mph. On fuel, the smaller bikes will give around 80+mpg and the larger ones around 70mpg at best.
