What is the best way to mount a camera on your bike?

I am off to Brno in August for the GP, I am going via Vienna to visit a mate who is going to join me and go to the alps in the south for a few days playing in the mountains (not in the style of Broke Back).

I have a panasonic lumix TZ5 which has high def and I would like to film my exploits on the trip, does anybody have advice on camera mounts, I want to be able to mount it in different parts of the bike. I am thinking that working something out and fabricating it at work maybe best plan…any suggestions?

Fella, you would be better of buyin a bullet cam,so much easier.Hook it up to the camcorder(make sure it has av in)& then you can mount it anywhere.all the best, kev:D

I had an Archos which would’ve done this but I blew it up…

I would have to buy a new camera for this option, the idea is to do it on the cheap and I want to see what ingenious Heath Robinson contraptions LBers come up with.

Gaffer tape

Cheers Tiggi…

Camera is too small to use tape though, or clipties, I have to use the screw mounting for tripod.

Drill a hole through the bottom of the tank and out through the top and pust a screw through the top to mount the cam. Job done:D

Sounds ideal Chunk, as you know the fuel consumption couldn’t get worse…:w00t:

Get a tame camera-person to ride pillion!

No room for pillions on this trip…I can’t ride as fast as I want 2 up, too much responsability…

Fella,if your goin on the bcr tomorrow,am puttin the bullet cam on,hopefully see you there…

here was some tips the last guy got:D http://londonbikers.com/forums/Topic372066-58-1.aspx

This would be my ideal camera set-up - http://www.dogcamsport.co.uk/single-bike-camera-kit.htm

The Dogcam website has lots of top camera-for-bike type of kit!
Full on gearlust.

You think there’s loads of places to put a cam on a bike but when it comes to doing it you don’t realise just how curvy and awkward positioning a cam is.

Tried a new position  on Monday with ours,…mounted it up on the fairing with a small tank bag on the tank holding all the other bits. The footage is great, but having difficulties finding other places even with numerous mounts and velcro. It’ll be different on the track bike, he’ll drill holes in the fairing and other places to mount it.

I think I have it sussed, I will bet to DIY store hopefully on my way back from BCR and have the unit fabricated by the end of the GP.

Heath Robinson eat your heart out…

Lucky for me I have a frame exposed for mounting points…hope it works:)

use bubble gum and cable ties…easy peasy

There are several filler cap ‘tank mounted’ brackets available… from the cheap the damn expensive - Sure I saw some in the M&P catalogue…

Might be worth Ebaying them once you know what your looking for and saving yourself a few bob!
