MAYBE the big football violence that gets on tv has lessened but there is still a hell of a lot of football violence going on.
The away fans get escorted in and out of games now BUT any break away groups intent on fighting STILL fight and will always fight despite the penalties.
The jails aren’t bursting at the seams for no reason.
So why did that happen if the threat of serious punishment is there?
Surely bring back hanging for anyone that doesn’t follow the rules…
Speeding, jumping red lights, crossing the road when not on a pedestrian crossing, spitting chewing gum, talking whilst in a cinema, having a bad hair cut, wearing last year’s fashions…
You been chatting to the Archbishop of Canterbury???
Anyhow, as for the main post.
So, let me get this straight a minute…
A % of so called ‘fans’ act up like this and people are virtually calling for an end to football???
Now if you will allow your imagination to run away with you for a minute or so, read on:
So what if, let’s say, you had a group of people or a subculture, who presented themselves as having a strong association with a particular mode of transport - for the sake of this example, we’ll imagine it’s motorbikes - and that this group would, at the heart of it’s existence have a major aversion to another group within society.
Imagine then that this second subculture, who presented themselves as having a strong association with a particular mode of transport which by varying degrees differed marginally from the original groups choice of transport - for the sake of this example, we’ll imagine it’s scooters - how bizarre a concept is it that said groups or subcultures would position themselves as so strongly opposed to one another, that this tense rivalry would even breakout into bouts of open hostility - some of which would far from spur of the moment low key incidents, but actually premeditated meetings between thousands from each side, who would converge at a chosen destination - for the sake of this example, we’ll imagine it’s a small seaside town on the South Coast such as Brighton or Margate or… - and openly indulge their desire for violent conflict regardless of any thoughts for their own safety, nor that of bystanders or the police who were tasked with preventing them from carrying out their premeditated acts of violence…
I’m sure you’d all agree that this would lead any right minded individual to call for a ban on all and any means of such groups existing amongst all of us, as it would be outrageous to think otherwise! Surely this logic would naturally lead to a ban of the modes of transport which these groups hold so dear and without which a major element allowing them to express their identity would be removed, thus leaving them impotent in their attempts to establish and impose the hostile nature of their character…
So I hope you all have enjoyed this trip through a parallel world where your imagination has been given a thorough workout, because nothing like this could actually ever happen…
could it…???
Remember folks, there are idiots out there who throughout the millions of years of evolution, have yet to remove their genetic impulse to fight… Look at the cause not the symptoms…
Which countries do you imagine this to be the case?
Here’s a multiple choice survey:
TurkeyArgentinaItalyCroatia and SerbiaHollandBrazilPolandRussia I’m afraid that this is global and the reason I’ve highlighted these countries in particular, is that they were chosen for a series where this element was looked at and these were seen as the homes of the most notorious hooligans there are…
By no means am I trying to defend, excuse or in any way, shape or form promote this topic as justifiable or anything of that nature, simply pointing out that sometimes what you see and hear about is not a true depiction of reality and that the vast majority of football fans are not hooligans… I’ve actually been in some really crap situations for no other reason than I happened to travel to Moscow and Milan to watch football games and there’s no other way to describe it than an unprovoked attack! This includes a 200+ vs 4 situation in Red Square the night before the game!:w00t: But I don’t think all Russians are w@nkers, just the ones that chose to chase us down (I was one of 4 you understand, not 200 :hehe: )and try and leave their mark on me…
Oh well, off to Wembley tomorrow to watch my boys in the FA Cup Final, so I think I’m going to concentrate on that side of things now rather than the darker image of the game…
Tough one tomorrow, I hope, and am fairly sure it will be a great event with minimum fuss… with both sets of fans on their best behaviour…
I’m not sure who I want to win, would love Cardiff to win because they are non-prem, both have an ex-liverpool player in their side and I do like Fowler more than Baros, but Pompeii are english and cardiff welsh?? Hmmm… I might just be neutral and enjoy it!
Nice1 fella!Met some mates last night who flew in from Oz yesterday… and I thought it was a nightmare just getting the tube to Wembley!!! So this week has been a bit surreal reading all the press and all the build up to the game - this type of thing just doesn’t happen to us every year like the Top 4 clubs ya know… :w00t:
