what breakdown service?

my vehicle breakdown cover is to expire this time next month, and at the moment im with britannia rescue -http://www.britanniarescue.com/ - they seem pretty good to me than the rest so far. been with them a year now. im paying £66 for the standard service.

thanks.

I use the AA. OK, its expensive but then I do have multiple vehicles and I do go to Europe every now and again. So I have the full on Euro Assist service. At the end of the day, they may (probably not though) be able to fix it, if not, they get you home or repatriate you.

I have heard good reports about Green Flag from motorcyclists.

I get mine free with my insurance (choice quote) really good as it uses a variety of ppl…in london SOS, and RAC where no were covers it!

britania are good

its worth asking anyone you are getting cover from who they will send out to you, most of these schemes use the same contractors, but some will use car contractors for bikes which can give a varying level of service

with the more expensive options such as aa and rac they will always send one of their own vans rather than a contractor if they can to save themselves money, some of the vans have collapsable bike trailers and some dont, so if they cant fix it you might have to wait for the contractor who would of come out to you to begin with if you had chosen the cheaper option (2nd lot of waiting time)

most companies cover the person rather than the car/bike (other than the cover “free” with bike insurance)

best bet is work out what you need (no point having european cover if you stay in uk etc) and then go round and get quotes

could try green flag, NCI online, through bmf membership, autohome or with your bike insurance

why is it that everybody tends to renew with the same breakdown cover without shopping around, but always try different companies for insurance?

Mine’s Green Flag, but I’ve got one now with my Ebike insurance, so I won’t ever be using Green Flag again.

When somebody tried to steal my Vespa from my courtyard, I had to call them to get the bike moved to a secure destination. Twice they send somebody, thinking it’s a Scott (classic British 1950s motorbike), not a Vespa (when I had several times mentioned this during my call, during which by the way, they kept referring to it as a ‘car’ :ermm The first bloke couldn’t do it, as it was (a) not a light motorbike and (b) in a courtyard with the steering lock on. Hence, the second guy, who had a small tray to put underneath the front wheel to move it out to his van.

Because of this ‘special equipment’, I had to pay the cost of £70. Once I’d already spent about four hours either on the phone with them or waiting for the guys to come round, they come back and say my breakdown cover doesn’t cover it because of this ‘special equipment’. By then it was too late to find anybody else (Sunday night), so I had to accept it.

I’ve also 2-3 times been promised that they would be with me within the hour, and 2.5h later, I’m still waiting. This was in mid-winter, so you can imagine I wasn’t happy.

I’m with NCI - costs around £35 a year and they send out people who are bike specialists, so no turning up with a van expecting you to be driving a car type mixups.

Having said that, I’ve never had to use them so it’s all theory at the moment.

Also got NCI, used them twice in the last couple of years, they sent out one of those vans that lowers to the road and just rolled the bike in, can’t remember exactly but didn’t have to wait long both times (about 40 mins or so)
