I can’t believe it. I got home last night, opened the garage, drove the bike in, switched it off, steering lock on, got off the bike…whoops … forgot to put the bl**dy side stand down !!! What a prat ! The bike fell over and pinned me against the wall by the bar end on my hand. Luckily (but not for my hand) the bike didn’t touch the floor or anything else. The whole weight of the bike was on my knuckle , and a cold knuckle at that !! It hurt like crazy. Anyway, I could’nt move or even lift the bike. I was trapped !! I shouted for my wife who was inside the house bathing the kids - she could’nt hear me. So I managed to get my phone with my other hand and call her - she didn’t answer - bathing the kids !! So I kept on beeping the horn. Eventually after about 10 minutes she realised that I wasn’t in yet and came to look for me. Somehow we got the bike upright and all was well.
So here I am nursing a sore hand today wondering if I am truly the only nob who has ever forgotten to put the kick stand down? Anyone else done anything similar - dropped the bike at a junction or somewhere equally embarrasing ??
No you are not the only one, there is another thread on here, I think with a poll that shows how many times people have dropped their bikes, including not putting their stands down
I suppose in looking back it was quite funny. The story gets a little better as I failed to mention that whilst I was trapped my wife had jumped in the shower after bathing the kids. When she eventually heard my cries for help she ran down in just her towell to help me. Luckily for her when helping pull the bike off me her towell didn’t fall off !! Imagine that - man pinned to wall speared by motorcycle with a naked lady manhandling his motorbike !! Oh god, could have been even more embarrassing !!!
Nice one buttonmonkey, my brother did that once at a petrol station. But he had just filled his bike up with petrol & before he could get the cap on the bike went down. On this occasion everyone on the forecourt stood and laughed at him (but didn’t help him) as his Belstaffs were completely soaked with fuel as he tried to catch the bike and stand it up. He stunk of petrol for ages after !!
Your story made me laff (sorry) but we all drop bikes, you just dropped it on you!!
Glad there is no damage. I managed to not put my side stand down properly – the bike stood there for about 3 minutes before collapsing. Gravity can be very, very irritating sometimes!
