What 50cc Scooter/Ped??????????????

My lad will be 16 in June, I know nothing about peds, what are the bargains? which peds are hot or not for a 16 year old? Which ones are built from washing up liquid bottles and glue, which ones are quality built bikes???How much will he have to pay for the bike and insurance?

Yes I am a Palace fan, we only admit it when we are doing well.

The cool thing to do is to nick someone else’s ped, derestrict it, fit an illegal exhaust, and ride it with no license and insurance. I would recommend an uncool ped simply so it doesn’t get nicked!

Get an issue of TAG magazine from WH Smiths - there is a large buyers guide at the back. If he has to ride a 50, as it has to be restricted to be legal, get a two stroke - the restricted four strokes are completely gutless. At least the two strokes pull to 25mph and cost nothing bar two stroke oil to maintain.

Once you have an idea what there is, go with him and look at some second hand machines. I wouldn’t think it worth spending loads on a new 50cc ped when there are loads of secondhand ones for a few hundred pounds.

Gilera Runner’s are always a hot topic with most 16 year olds…however they are also hot on the stolen bikes list.

Personally I would suggest a Piaggio Zip with a Datatool Compact 2 fitted!!

It all depends what style he wants, Gilera Runner and a Piaggio NRG look great and most of the kids out there ride them your son might want one but they are the most nickable bikes.

like the first part of your reply, reminds me of my teenage years, thanks for the advice off to WHsmiths.

Our son was advised by someone in the know to get the NRG Power (water cooled) he’s been happy so far

Fast enough for me too

Is that 2 up :stuck_out_tongue:

Up you 2 :stuck_out_tongue:

does it work in the rain…because that bussa dont:)

you be careful with all that power !!

I bought my son a Yamaha TZR50 and he was over-the-moon about it (because it looks like a baby R6 and it has a manual clutch and gears).

They stopped importing/making them in 2004 I think and, with 12,000 miles on the clock, it needed some work. It was fast (for a 50cc) so I assume that it had been derestricted. Unfortunately, he just got too carried away with the excitement and after the 3rd wreck in 3 months I refused to repair it any more.

Anyway, he loved it because it was a real bike in his eyes, and not a twist-and-go.

If you are still looking we have one of these crazy scooter (if you want to call it that) for sale. Its a geared 50cc, and goes by the name of Sachs Madass - eBay Link

Your right its a mini R6, I didnt know they made decent looking 50’s anymore, what sort of price are they going for???

If your lad wants a decent ped i would reccomened a yammah arrox as they are sporty fast and really popular you can pick up an 2nd hand arrox for around £800 just try to buy it of a owner that has not raged it to much i.e runened it.

another popular ped is an gilara 50cc as it looks likea small sports motorbike and are very reliable.

a ped is more of a sports 50cc and a scootor is more like a retro moped i.e a vespa, which i think are great however your son more than likely wants to have a sports bike which the girls and lads will thinks cool so i would go for the arox.

Thanks for the advice, tag magazine is really worth reading as it filled all the gaps in my knowledge, it also gives good advice on pricing and buying tips.

Once again thanks, now to start looking for a bargin.

We bought my son a 53 reg Aprilia RS50 Pedrosa Replica as it was the coolest ped on the planet at the time:w00t:

Insurance was £800 TPO:crazy:

As none of his mates had peds he hardly used it:hehe:

Chnukey if you rode you sons 50cc ped with the power to weight ratio of you and the bhp of the bike it will only be a 2bhp bike.:stuck_out_tongue:

john mate, see if you can find a gilera dna 50. at least it looks like a bike (sorta) but runs as a ped. n u dont see that many of em around suprisingly (well i dont).
