what 2nd bike shall i buy?

will be using this bike for the track, a bit of road riding and maybe a little touring. will keep the hornet for london based activities.

have looked on the net and from what i can see these are the best years of these particular models taking into consideration bang for your buck. any owners opinions very welcome. please don’t vote if you don’t know your arse from your elbow (this may limit the vote count somewhat :P)

Right up until you mentioned a little touring, it was a difficult choice

please elaborate young sir. have you chosen the gsxr just because of the extra displacement/torque, or is it a comfort thing?

ive got hornet for the road and a cbr 6 for the track so id be biased and say that… or the 675 as they too are excellent on track…

I wouldnt try touring on either though. Would do it on my hornet!

Since Jetstream is away, I’ll have to say “Daytona 955i” on his behalf!

funnily enough i’m planning a 1-2 month trip next year on the hornet. all i’m thinking is for subsequent weekend/week trips to the nurburgring and the like, i’d really wanna be on a sports bike.

i’d love to get a 675, i really would. but it’s at the top end of the price bracket unfortunately as i’d have to get an '09 from what i’ve read so far.

maybe i should add i’m 6ft 1". not the tallest around but bike size and seating position subtleties are worth taking into consideration…

yep, t’is an option but i’d prefer something a little more track focussed i think. wouldn’t rule one out though, seem like great bikes

Any reason why you haven’t included the k6/k7 GSX R750? Better handling than the 04, as comfy as a sports bike can be, and a rocket ship over 10k revs.

no not really fella, precisely why i posted as owners opinions is what i’m after. i just looked at wikipedia (!?!) to see the specs at a glance. i saw the 04 had more torque so thought it might be easier to live with day-to-day plus i prefer the looks. thought the k4 would be a fair bit cheaper too…

sounds like you’ve had proper experience of both though…?

Only owned the K7 (and loved it until it was stolen) so can’t comment on how the 2 compare, from what I’ve read the older model has slightly more torque but the newer handles better. Try some of the Gixxer forums for a better idea of which would suit you best as lots of people have owned both (or try to get a test ride on both).
I used my K7 for daily London commute, weekend blasts and touring, it does it all brilliantly.

nice one fella. will test ride em both when it comes to it

gxsr 750 all day long as its got the extra torque for touring you dont wanna tour on a 600rr i had one but only for 6 months then went and got the 750:) dont know bout the 675 though

cheers mr bike. def gonna be between the suzuki and triumph by the looks of things. price and comfort being the determining factors!

675 all day long…

no sportsbike is good for touring really Ad!

my next bike will be an FZ1 or a Superduke…

Fairings are for pussy’s!!

when i say touring what i really mean is getting to tracks in europe! or some roads that can almost be ridden like the track!

it’s def between the 675 and the 750 although i’d never count the rr out as i love the looks but think it mat be just too small. this is all based on paper though which i why i wanted owners opinions really. ratty have you ridden these bikes?

indeed, fairings are for pussies but sportsbike set ups are for people who really want to progress on the track :stuck_out_tongue:

If a bike can go from one petrol stop to the next without you needing to stop in between due to aches etc then it’s fine as a tourer. The Gixxer isn’t as cramped as the other bikes mentioned, you sit in it rather than on it. Did 1500 miles last month through Germany and France (over one week) and my mate on his 750, who admits to being out of shape, was fine on his bike. It can get a bit achy if you do only motorways (same as any bike) but use the back roads and you’ll be moving about on it more than on a naked bike. Also helps if you use the bike regularly, so your body gets used to the riding position.

cheers jjon

yes mate i have,

i’ve rode an 07 600RR, i liked it, felt nice, knee down was easy on it, and it felt rock solid, BUT it didnt have the chracter of the 750 Gixxa, i rode an 08 one, LOVED it, nice and quick but it was torquey, not as much as a liter thou but was nice, better than a 600.

also had quite a few goes on a mates 07 gixxa 600, it had no cat, TRE fitted, plus free breathing akra, was the BOLLOX, really liked that bike, ivery nearly bought it!!!

one other bike to consider, 03-05 R6…AWESOME…prob the best sports 600 i have ever been on, i rode Olly’s rossi rep one, in 3rd…might have been 2nd? anyway crack the throttle and it lifted…the other 6’s didnt do that., plus i liked the riding postion and the power, very revvy! and it handled so nicely.

not yet rode a 675…but i was eyeying up a test ride on the new 675R only last week

i hear what ya saying mate, to really bee quick on track you do need a sportsbike, suspension set up is better, riding postion is better for track, its what they are made for.

seriously, try an 03-05 R6 if you can.

cheers ratty, i will as it goes. hasn’t been getting much love in the polls but i wanna ride em all before i make my mind up. am leaning towards the gsxr though. even though i really want the triumph

no worries fella.

yeh the trumpets are bloody good bikes!!

defo try an R6, not the new shape tho, i’ve rode one, and didnt really like it.
