Westminster Parking

Jut received a text that it’s being reduced to £1.00.,

Yay :stuck_out_tongue:

yeah, same as that. Interesting development.
I doubt it was to do with the protest though tbh, Westminster (or any council for that matter) don’t usually listen to the public;;;

Just got the same text, must say I am amazed but still don’t think it will stop the protests though!! They want it for free!!

It’s a start but not good enough.

I’m for the charge - at least I can get parked in f*cking Soho these days - which I couldn’t before the charge.

Gimme me 50 quid back! :w00t:

That’s so fokkin’ great. We’re so happy for you.

I only come into London for 6pm for evening classes and have to pay £1 to park for 30 minutes.

So I get fcked every day trying to park and am happy to find the situation eased while you get p1ssed because you have to pay a measly fcking quid to attend your evening class!

Don’t make me laugh!

Now you’ve gone and hurt my feelings.

Two sides to every argument mate.

Maybe they should increase motorcycle parking charges to £1.00 per hour then? Or just for you?

If I pay £1 for 30 minutes, you’d be getting a 50% reduction for all day parking. That means you’d only pay on average, around £9/day to park your motorcycle.

I’d pay £5/week to park for a total of 2.5 hours just to get to classes, so that I can get a qualification and then earn zhit loads of money so that I can aford to take public transport into London!

NO TO CONGESTION PARKING!!!
NO TO MOBILE PHONE CHARGES FOR PARKING!!!

Check your next mobile phone bill carefully. They probably charged you for the text. That wouldn’t suprise me.

Look mate - everyone has a different angle on this depending on their circumstances - I had some really sh1t experiences trying to park in Westminster - particularly if I got called out on a job mid-day - I remember circling around trying to park in summer - engine over-heating - everywhere rammed with scooters - ending up having to hoik it on the pavement (out of the publics way but still I got a 60 quid ticket). It was really becoming a problem - since the charge came in parking has been easier - so from my point of view I am happy to pay the charge.

If you can generate enough support to overturn the charge then i’ll respect it because that is democracy in action - but from my point of view the charge has made my life easier - if it was totally immoral - like horrendously expensive - I would have reservations on the grounds of fairness - even if I could happily pay it myself - because I don’t believe that people should be priced out of things in that way - but personally I don’t think the charge is exorbitant - a fiver a week now it has come down to a quid.If it means people are parking in adjoining boroughs to evade the charge then that’s fine - im happy to pay to get parked relatively easily in Westminster.

{Oops, duplicate post}

I have considered improving my opinion of Westminster by a third.

However, as a result of customer feedback, I have decided not to.

For a quid a day I want a liveried flunkie to park my bike for me and then lick it clean - especially the hot bits.

In what sense is the charge not ‘exorbitant’? They’ve managed several million pounds profit out of the scheme already and will continue to do so.
I don’t see anything to substantiate parking having become easier, in my experience its as bad as ever.
Going by your statement, the charge has reduced the number of bikes in central London by discouraging them - is this really how you’d like public policy to treat motorcycling? As a problem? I certainly don’t.
Parking should be free for bikes just as it always has been, in a city as congested as London a knuckle dragging authority like westminster needs to be reeled in.
They lack basic commonsense and simply put revenue before anything else.
A fiver a week? That’s 240 a year plus for someone who needs to park there all year, for what exactly? A couple of feet of space for a bleedin’ motorbike?
Ridiculous, an absolute scam.

Why would you want to pay for something which has always, quite rightfully, been free in this country?

Well the only thing that is gonna change this is voting them out + ensuring whatever party you vote in will repeal the charge - it’s a tory council in a very tory area - so that’s unlikely.

Demos aren’t going to make them budge either - in other words - it looks like we are stuck with it.

Personally I have noticed a difference since the charge came in - I have been able to find parking in the most busy periods (at mid-day - in the summer) in the past at this time of day/year I found it impossible. I can only go on experience - so for me it’s worth the money.

So have I…

My mobile phone bill is rising, despite the fact that I rarely ever use it. The battery needs to be charged more regularly to bring it out. I often have to double back and go home to fetch my mobile phone because I forgot it, and now that it’s as essential as a pair of underwear, I daren’t venture out without one as if I was going to a strip tease club. I spend more time trying to find out where the fug I put my mobile phone when I park my bike. I’m starting to wonder whether I need to actually text and pay BEFORE I park, or park first, and then pay, incase Westminster Council CCTV my bike parked in the time before I got the mobile text message sent. So I’ve noticed that I start to waste time thinking on something which I didn’t used to. Then when I walk to my classes, I double check to make sure no big white van is around the corner waiting to lift my motorbike away because the £1.00 charge for 30 minutes doesn’t include security clamps/bolts/locks. When I shrug this huge unfathomable weight of thinking off to get to classes, my tutors notice that I turn up half an hour late, and wonder why, when I used to turn up regularly on time at 6pm bingo!

And worse, for you lot, I’ve started to whinge on public forums which I never used to do. This mustn’t be eco-friendly and wastes even more electricity. Gaaaggghh!! Whatever happened to free parking for motorcycles :frowning:
